Well done on this whole thing. I'm David. 32 years old smoked for about 15 years and now on about 30 a day for the past 2 years. Hate it:mad:. Wanna get rid of it.
Any experiences? Stories... Positive outcomes... let me know I'd love to hear them.
Thanks
Dave

Welcome Dave, you have come to a great place for support and suggestions. I myself am on like the 50th try but day 3 of the patches and doing good so far. There is alot to read here and people will give you tips and suggestions for you to use also if you would like. Keep reading and coming back and checking in. Good luck to you!
I too am new to this forum. Smoked for 30 odd years, presently around 20+ a day and am trying Champix - stop day tomorrow! Am feeling pretty nervous about it - there is a real fear I won't be the same person without a fag in my hand or being the one who is just nipping out for a fag.
BUT THIS TIME I WILL SUCCEED - that is my current mantra!
Wow - that was quick - what great support! Hi guys!
Guys I have not yet set a date. I just want to get on with my life without nicotine. So I cleared the house of all Cigs ... and smokable buts... errh I know its so bad. Anyway tomorrow... I'll wake up an be free... it will be a miracle.
Yeah yeah I know it might not work like that but I'd love to be the one... wouldn't you... the one who just stops the smoking dead in its tracks and says HEY ITS POSSIBLE!
Well whether I do or whether i set a proper date and plan this thing through and look into other methods I'll sure to be back to chat you you 3 at least to help me though the quit or getting to the stop date.
Thank you so much for the replies!!
PS - I'm in South Africa so don't know what time zones you guys are in... it's almost bed time for me. I hope I dream of clear lungs, energetic walks and laughing in the face of any craving.
I'm so sick of it. Some days I can't even talk to people properly because I stand back knowing I have drunk 3 cups of coffee and smoked 10 sigarettes by 10am. Sheeesshh.
Driving miles late at night for a box. lacking energy. the whole deal sucks.

Hiya Chelseagirly. Welcome to the forum. You've started out with the right attitude I see, that's going to help loads, if you really want it you'll get it. I was nervous about stopping, frightened to death in fact, it's a lot easier than I thought though. Stop smoking and you wont be the same person, you'll be a lot better. Can't tell you anything about Champix, I'm sure someone will be along soon. Have a look under peoples signatures for links to info and have a good read. Some say knowledge is power so get some. All the best then. Davofgy.
Good luck for this. I wish you all the best and hope you can find all the things you need in the early days to stave off the conflict between the you that it quitting and the subconscious you that the addiction courted for x amount of years telling it that smoking was cool.
Well you've seen the truth, now the rest is up to you. Fight the cravings all the way if they occur.. I hope you get a relatively manageable first few days, it helps gather focus.
I'm still a newbie but I am now feeling confident that I will succeed. Some of the things that I think are helping me are:
[*]Attitude: without determination and resolve I was just having a fight with myself (I can't smoke ... but I WANT to) which caused so much stress. Once I determined I AM quitting and WILL NOT have another puff, it has gone sum much easier.
[*]Triggers: I stopped certain smokes (after meals, after work)
[*]Smoking area: I defined a smoking area as the only place I could smoke. Even if I went into town I couldn't smoke until I got home (of course I used designated area at work)
[*]Cut down: I continuously cut down until the last day I had only smoked around 4.
[*]This Forum: I read everything I could and it helped me to understand various reactions, so I'm much calmer about it all now. I have posted a few times and the advice/support of many people also helped me a lot.
I'm still working hard myself, but I do have confidence which is also helping. My first quit day was 1 week ago tomorrow, but the first four days I cheated with puffs from my husbands cigarette. This is now my third nicotine free day and it's so much easier than the first four days (but not a walk in the park).
I'm sure you'll be able to do this. Look at how many people on this forum have done it.
hi there all , my name is tanya i'm 35 been smoking for about 15yrs its my first day, its going really well just eating more which i guess is 'normal' anyway reasons for giving up are i've been having a slight sore throat on the right side , for a couple of months it comes and goes ive been so worried that i never went to sleep till 5 in the morning last night.. so i woke up and binned ciggies lighters ashtrays and made an appointment with doctors for next week .. sorry about going on but i dont really want to show my family i'm worried i have no one eles to talk to thank .. really like this forum can see why it helps so many people to stay positive!!
Tanya, welcome to these forums and certainly among folk who've either been there at the start already or are pretty much in the first days of quitting smoking themselves too.
Don't fear going to your doctors though, there is nothing worse than overly worrying about something to the point where it is keeping you awake.. the lack of sleep will then start to affect you and you end up on this merry-go-round of problems that collectively make you feel proper out of sorts with the world.
It might just be something like quite a normal throat infection, and be quite treatable too, but i am 100% convinced that stopping smoking will definitely give any infection a chance to heal quicker.
The body is an amazing machine, but never rule out your doctor to keep it on track. Above all try to remove the worry first, it will help your quit so much more if your not anxious for other things.
thanks jase .. a big well done to you for 7 weeks you must feel great .. thanks for replying to my message i'm feeling better already' i think getting my fears off my chest has helped alot really hope its a infection will let you know. x p.s just going to have some beans and sausage on toast 'i cant help myself' lol
Thanks, yeah it will be my full 7 weeks complete on this saturday night, but the differences i've seen just in how i feel alone have been worth any horrible moments i got, and there have been a fair few :). The feeling of well being you get in later weeks really makes you notice how far you've improved since quitting, and you can't help wanting other folk to get there too. Tis why i'll still reply constantly to posts from folk just starting. We all started somewhere, and there is folk much further on in their quit by many months who inspire me alot too.. its just nice to be able to pass that on a bit Quitting is something you do for mostly yourself, but helping others to succeed with theirs is a way of saying thanks to the folk who've helped me.
mmmm comfort food!!! perfect. Hope its them little tinned sausage n beans.. the HP/Heinz ones.. love them.
I tried that reggae reggae sauce today too, quite liked it
but yeah you'll do right to get rid of the anxiousness and worry first tho.. stopping smoking is probably something you've alread put off a few times for any number of reasons, i'm just glad you've finally made the decision to stop.
Well good on you. good luck and enjoy the beans n sausies
Big congrats on your decision. I too am new to the forum & am following the same plan as yourslef. I not long smoked my last fag so once I wake up in the morning that shall be it.
I've been smoking for around 10years but recently my intake has become alot worse & I now smoke 25-30 a day!
But after so many failed attemps I'm determined this time
Fingers crossed for both of us for the morning, speak soon.
