Quit 6 days ago...

Hi All

Thought I'd finally introduce myself. I've smoked on and off for 20 years. I smoked about 5 a day. I've quit lots of times over the twenty years and have stayed fag free for up to 4 months. I always went Cold Turkey. I was one of these secret smokers. No-one really knew that I smoked, but my partner knew and he hated it!!!!! I always kidded myself that I was in control because it was "only a few a day", but the fact is, I AM AN ADDICT. So, I finally decided to face up to the fact that I had to stop permanently (health reasons) and got myself some NRT patches.

I've found, so far, and on hindsight that the thought of stopping was more stressful than stopping. Does this make sense? I found the first two days were the worst, but I certainly didn't feel the same cravings and upset as I did when I went CT. For me, I wish I'd tried the patches years ago.

I found this forum at the end of Day 1 and, I can tell you, I think it's been as good a help as the patches! :D Reading the posts has given me extra support to succeed. Do you know what I find odd? When I sit here looking at the posts about quitting smoking/smoking/cigarettes/nicotine etc, I never feel the urge to have one!!! When I do having a craving, it's when I'm minding my own business and doing something un-smoke related. Why's that?!

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to posting soon in Week 2. Anyone else at the same stage as me? x :)

Thanks for the support everyone. Yip, day 7 for me today KitKat. I can't believe it. However, I'm mentally preparing myself for what maybe my rockiest few days, so far, coming up. I've been so busy with my children that I physically haven't had time to smoke. My children are going into their respite care for a few days this afternoon. This is usually the time where I can finally relax, have 2 or 3 glasses of wine with a few ciggies........you get the idea! I'll need to change my routine. So, maybe I'll have 5 or 6 glasses of wine instead of 2 or 3. That means I'll have a massive hangover and have to stay in bed and won't be able to smoke!! x ;)
