Mouth problems???????????????????

Hiya guys

Looks like you've all been having fun eating cakes and going for bike rides

I've got a problem I'm hoping someone can help me with.............has anyone had mouth problems since they gave up? I have a really sore mouth with wee ulcers round the edge of my tongue and my teeth are bleeding really badly when I brush them. It's really sore..................boo hoo.

Sorry to hear you have mouth problems at the moment woth ulcers and bleeding gums there are several threads/posts on here about it I'll see if I can find them for you

I also know theres one on WhyQuit about bleeding gums but not sure where I use Anbesol for ulcers and find it goos you can get it from any supermarket or chemist over the counter

If you're really worried about it go to your dentist to set your mind at rest

Thanks Marg I appreciate that...........it's really sore when I am eating......prob not a bad thing cos it's made me stop!!!!

Didn't know if it was some sort of infection or if it is quite common in us smoking quitters. As I have a dentist phobia I am hoping it's the stopping smoking that's causing it

Hi carol, I used corsodil (sp) not the daily one. It sorted out mouth ulcers and helped with the bleeding gums.

I know it feels horride but it does improve and I was recommended corsodil by a dentist years ago when I had problems and i always turn to it when ulcers pop up.

bleeding gums

Hi Carol,

I have had bleeeding gums since stopping smoking. I went to docs and dentist and was told that it was very common when quitting ciggies. Nothing to worry about. It's to do with blood vessels regrowing in the mouth and they bleed initially, or summit like that. My dentist has suggested a deep clean which I have planned for 3 weeks time. I believe this is not a very nice thing to have done but it helps protect teeth and gums a bit better and gets rid of all that staining done to the teeth over the years. So I'd definitely suggest seeing the dentist and having that deep clean.

Does'nt sound like fun this sore mouth thing!!. Do you think you may be having a reaction to Champix? I know it's not one of the commen side affects but hey, who knows??

Well done for having quit!! It's been almost a week for me and i'm doing it cold turkey! not easy!!!! but we are smoke free so thats what counts. Kepp it up and i hope those sores go!!

Hi Caz,

Not sure if this has been said (lot of posts for you on this one!!) But i know that champix can sometimes cause gingivitis which i think is a gum related problem!!! Just to let you know, Trip to the ole dentist should help you out.

Hi Caz,

I am on day 11 but have quit many times. I was a heavy smoker, smoking cigarettes 20 - 40 a day for 25 years. Yesterday my mouth was full of ulcers (today also)... but it didnt let it bother me, as i know that its part of withdrawal from the nicotine.

It is painful and eating is difficult. But it will pass. I think its something to do with acid in your mouth and to avoid acidic foods. I think - well if it can do this to my mouth from quitting, think of the damage i was doing smoking! x
