Three days in...

So it should be 3 days to quit day...however, having had emergency dental work over the weekend, quit day moved a bit, so now actually on day 3. All good. In fact far better than expected (using Zyban).

The sore throaty cough thing...assuming it's common, how long does it generally last? (quite irritating) Also, I don't know if I am not sleeping because of dental pain, Zyban, or actual withrawal effects at the moment, but assuming either of the last two, can someone just reassure me that this will die away over time?

Well done on 3 days! That's great cos it does get very gradually easier from here.

The sore throat/cough thing ... I have coughing bouts, they've been getting less frequent and intense. I'm on day 24. My voice would also waver in and out too in the first couple of weeks. As for sleeping, I had so much energy at first, now I have none. I do sleep much better than I used to though!

Hope this helps as you march on into day 4 - soon be one week :)

Hi Potterdale :D

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

Well done on day 3 that's great the sore throat and cough are common as is the difficulty with sleeping so suspect they're all because you've quit and they all pass fairly quickly so yes they all go away and it will get easier for you as well Promise

I know nothing about Zyban except that it works apparently in the same way as champix which I used

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here OK

Best Wishes

Hello potterdale

Sorry to hear about the dental work, hope you feel better real soon:)

Day 3 good on you hang on in there.

I remember that horrible dry mouth/cough not nice but YES it does improve:) Im sure you know to drink vast amounts of water which is easy to remember this hot weather. I sucked throat sweets to ease the irritation and avoid embarasing outbursts in public.

The sleeping thing, well it could be a combination of all three and i hope it soon passes for you as lack of sleep can make you grouchy and you dont want that! I have read on here some people cant sleep at the begining of their quit (i couldnt get enough of it) Everyone seems to have quit symtoms at different stages although we all share the same goal

Yeah sorry i'll have to agree with that quote.

and remember quiting smoking will cost you a lot less in dental work in the long run too!

well done and see you in day 4.

love

jamie
