I've been lurking here and reading the last several days. I smoked my last cigarette at 9pm May 31st 2009 quit cold turkey. You guys have gotten me thru the last few days. Yesterday I had a horrible headache all day and have been coughing for days. I've been smokng for 10 years started when I was 28 and now im 38. I know stupid to start so late in life. This place is great and I will continue to post here and there. It's weird im determined to quit but all I do is think about when I have my next cig. I guess Im gonna have to keep making that next cig for another day. Any way thanks again and good luck everyone. I'll be in touch....

Well done on day 6 that's great Just hang in there
Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here OK
If you haven't already worked it out most of this quitting lark is in the mind!
Look on quitting as a positive experience rather than a sacrifice or depriving yourself and you'll find it much easier (or less difficult anyway!)
Well you complete the 1st week tomorrow, well done, that's no mean feat!
All the best
Nic
Yeah I've realized it's all in my mind. To be honest the cravings aren't even that bad and i've been having a few cocktails here and there the last few days and I haven't caved. It's the dreams of smoking that are crazy. I wake up smelling my hands and freaking out that I caved in and smoked then I realize it was just a dream. Then I go back to sleep and smoke some more lol.... As I keep saying i can smoke if I want too. But im not going to because it is a disgusting, unhealthy and filthy habit....
We were around cigarettes for a long time so it's only natural we will go on thinking about them for a little while, thankfully it does stop. The headaches are part of the stopping, I believe more oxygen to the brain, and the coughing is another part of the healing. Reading the links in our signatures will help you to understand the addiction which will help you lots.
Well done for getting through your first week, you are doing great.
I found the smoking dreams did not last too long for me. It is a horrible feeling when you wake thinking you have smoked. I was convinced one morning I had, was reveived when I realised I hadn't but put me out of sorts for most of the day  It won't last long honest.
had a few to many glasses of wine last night.. I woke up coughing like I had smoked a ton of cigs. I didnt smoke any very strange. Although I remember dreaming last night that I turned down a smoke so that is good. Feeling better everyday. Crazy I have energy in the morning and feel so much more clearheaded. And my body doesnt feel polluted anymore and my teeth feel clean. Ready to go sign up for the gym this week cuz im eating like a pig right now. One week completed. One month here I come.
The coughing in the mornign is your lungs clearing all the muck out so all good there. It's amazing how quickly you notice the benefits of not smoking isn't it.
Well done for the first week. I have been lucky and not had to many smoking dreams, my sister who has been smoke free for 11years still has the odd smoking dream but she said she doesn't even think about ciggies any more so go figure at least you are only smoking in your dreams. Good luck
