Trying to do this...

I just found this site and I've been lurking for the past day or so. I decided to quit smoking at about 11pm here, and now its 235am. I ran out of cigarettes, so that's been helpful, and the fact that my car's in the shop and my room mates are sleeping. Thus, I can't get any cigarettes until at least tomorrow morning, so I'm going to try quitting cold turkey. Its not the first time I've tried quitting but hopefully it's the last time I quit. A little info about myself and cigarettes: Started when I was 19, I'm 24 now. I'm scared every time I get a cold or a sore throat thinking I have cancer or something. My voice has started changing and I wake up with nasty mucus that I have to cough up. So, I have decided to quit smoking. Wish me luck because I'll need it. I'm going to try using this website as motivation. It'll be a good surprise for my girlfriend also. Hope to get far and thank you all for the motivation! Gotta fight the cravingggggggg

Hi Ihatesmoking :)

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

I'm glad you decided to join us and running out of fags is a godd enough reason to quit

At a guess I think you probaly come from the States

Best wishes

Hi IHS,

Welcome to the forum. I wish you all the best in your quit - but luck has got little to do with it. Read the sites mentioned in Marge's post, learn about your addiction and then you will be better equipped to fight it. Stay strong and make this quit succesful - then you never have to go through this again:D.

Hello and welcome to the forum. This forum has a great support group and will really help. I think the key to quitting smoking and staying quit is in your mind set and education. Learn all you can about nicotine addiction. Read the links at the bottom of this post and when you feel a craving read some more. Every morning when you get up say to yourself "I choose health, I choose wealth, I choose freedom, I choose life, I choose not to smoke." I read this on one of the sites and it really helps to get your mind set for the day. Only 3 days and the nicotine should be out of your system and then its all mental. You can do this! I smoked for 35 years at 1 to 2 packs a day(times when it reached 2 1/2) and I did it. Just choose life!

Thanks for the motivation you guys! I completed my first day. Almost done with 48 hours now. Just 6.5 more hours to get to the 48 hour mark! The funny thing is that I got sick yesterday. Hopefully I can just go another day to get all the nicotine out. Another good thing is that it's the weekend and of course I will not be going out because of the flu! Thus, I won't be tempted to smoke cig's at the bars or clubs. I guess this time quitting really is hopefully going to work!
