today is day 10 for me. i don't feel as if it is going so well as i have the constant urge to light up. i am a 2 pack a day, 20 year smoker and i feel that these urges never stop. i have heard that they stop around the second week? but then everyone is different. i keep as busy as i possibly can but the urge is always there. any advice please? thank you!

I remember back to how bad it was when i was smoking, how it smelt, how I felt and how you couldnt smoke where you wanted to. I also think how I dont want to go through this again.

Hi Blondebaby :)

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

Well done on 10 days quit already have a read it really will help you

Best Wishes

I know what you mean about the urges, just remember thats all they are. They are not physical, just mental. Sing a song or recite something. I used to say, I choose health, I choose wealth, I choose freedom, I choose not to smoke ( got this from one of the sites below). By the time I could say the whole thing the urges would be gone. Reading the different links(attached at bottom of this post and others posts) also help, or come on here and read. Things will get better. Just remember, tomorrow is another day and it will be a better day!

wow, thanks for the reply's guys! i know that i can not give in nor will i, but those urges just drive me nuts, make it all i can think about, make me very irritable and cranky. i chose to quit for myself and also because i am a mother of 5 wonderful kids! i do tell myself all the time that i'm not going to light up again, and that it will get easier. then on some days i'm constantly trying to talk myself into going back to it. what a powerful hold this holds on us. good luck to you all and thank you!
