Caving in

Hi everyone,

have been reading posts since i quit 2months 3 weeks ago.Have found it really helpfull.I quit using champix.

Smoked for 30 years,20 a day.

Problem is the last two weeks i want to smoke,i miss it.Iwant to do the things i used to.Sit in the garden with coffee and ciggie.Chill out when little boy in bed.

I dont drink, dont go out and it was the only thing that broke up the day.

I know it sounds crazy.I am not physically craving its all in my mind.

If i give in to these thoughts i know i'm gonna have to do it all again at some time.As i know i cannot smoke long term.

Any suggestions.

Hi and congratulations on your quit!

That doesn't sound crazy at all and it's the hardest part of quitting. We all have to deal with these thoughts at some point. You are still thinking of smoking as something you used to enjoy - you are remembering the few nice smokes.... not the huge numbers you didn't. You're remembering that sometimes they relaxed you... not that they gave you bad skin, hair, teeth, an awful smell (not to mention slowly killing you). Very common and perfectly understandable.

If i give in to these thoughts i know i'm gonna have to do it all again at some time.As i know i cannot smoke long term.

    Ain't that the truth!

    Any suggestions.

For me the easiest way was to read my way out of these thoughts. Cigarettes are not an enjoyment. You can't have that one nice one without all the others that made you feel like rubbish. If you could, you wouldn't be quit, would you?

Try having a good read of the sites linked to in my signature as a starting point. If you can get your mindset right then these thoughts will just fade away.

  • Easier

  • Hi Suzy

I knew this would be a huge problem for me too, and planned to find something else to do.

Soon after the quit, I bought a catapult and target to shoot at as a small reward. Sounds crazy but it mean't I could still go outside and do something for me (especially with the fingers, and also you have to take nice deep breaths when pulling back on the elastic) ! Am now a pretty good crack shot.

Nowadays (65 days in) I still keep the target practice up, especially after the kids are in bed. I also read more, and cycle / swim too....often with the kids, who are now lagging behind again as my lungs are much better:)

    Kind Regards

    Guy

  • Hi Suzie and welcome to the forum which will help you enormously, might I suggest you read the Stupid Kate13 thread and the dentist thread it will scare the bejesus out of you, you are still young enough to stop smoking and not have the damage done, am afraid I am now paying the price for years of smoking.....please don't give up now, you have come sooo far xxx

  • Hello Suzy

I am so with you on this one, I know exactly what you mean. Dont really want one but it would be really really nice to. The whole ritual of going outside with beer / coffee / good book and just sitting down and chilling out with a good cigarette. Problem is there isnt really a good cigarette.

Its just another nicotine trick to me stop your quit and go back to being nico slave.

Im only a week further down the line than, keep with me on this quit

  • :mad:Having such a stressy day today.

Really would kill for... err not a cigarette but for something right about now

  • Thanks for the advice, the boss has asked me throw something softer next time Im losing it :D
