That would get really dull, really quickly Miss Fiona.... but rest assured I am counting down!

I'm actually really surprised that I care so much about the big milestone, I thought the novelty of ticking off days would have worn off by now... but all of a sudden it's really, REALLY important to me.

Yeah but remember that each time you changed units it was a big deal, its just a long time since days changed to weeks changed to months, and now they'll soon be changing to years.

FWIW I met a woman yesterday who quit July last year (like me), then relapsed last week (unlike me:)) and is now smoking!!! So every day as a non smoker is IMHO a big deal, even if it is "normal" now.

Thats an exceedingly good point, Nic. I hadn't thought about it like that - and it explains why it feels so different approaching 12 months rather than 11.

FWIW I met a woman yesterday who quit July last year (like me), then relapsed last week (unlike me:)) and is now smoking!!!

I would be SO gutted with myself for that - I bet she is, and I hope she starts it again real soon before the associations become very strong again (too late for withdrawals!)

So every day as a non smoker is IMHO a big deal, even if it is "normal" now.

Abso-bleeding-lutely.... every day smoke free is a great day!

Think you need to keep your goals focused, 1 year is an excellent achievement, hopefully by that stage new triggers will be few and far between. Good luck Stu, as to Nic's comment about the person who quit July last year only to start again, gutted wouldn't come close, probably after sobering up and realising whatever lame excuse I gave myself as a let off just ruined a perfectly good quit.

Indeed - I make it 11 days to go :)

I'm going for the spontaneous approach...

So thats no practice at all then!

You have to remember that this is only a "little dance", and as such there is no need for a dress rehearsal....

Maybe a few drinks beforehand, but no rehearsal :D

Late again!

Hi Stu and everyone who still remembers me!

Just spotted this thread and wanted to wish you well Stu-very nearly there now-must feel great!

I'm not too far behind you either-and yes, I'm still quit-even after a 2 week holiday in Portugal which must be the smoking capital of Europe!

See you in the penthouse next month-yippee!

Thanks - it does feel great, although a part of me just wants the first year to be over... I don't know if that makes a lot of sense, but I have it in my head that I won't need to keep track of my progress after the year. Obviously I need to keep in my head the "not one more puff" mentality, but I feel that I won't need to keep a handle on how far I have come....

Makes sense to me, anyway :D

Yep, only a month to go for you too.... superb stuff, I'll save you a spot by the pool ;)

10 to go

Stuart,

I am feeling exactly the same. For some reason I am really quite "nervous" at the moment and keep thinking that I am going to fail at the last hurdle. I am thinking about smoking ALOT. I too am thinking that if I get to next Monday without a hiccup then I can forget about quitting, counting and milestones and get on with my life.

Whats going on????

Horror!! I have just worked out I will be away on your grand entrance to the big PH. Thats Nics and yours i've missed. Can I get a private dance later?

I've no idea, but I expect it's nothing to worry about and will pass as soon as this moment is passed.... after all, its something we've been aiming for for a long time - so it makes sense that it feels so huge I guess.

Fiona - no problem, just don't tell anyone - OK? ;)

I'll be in my best suit for the grand entrance, but once the champagne has died down I shall be changing into my shorts :)

I plan on spending a lot of time at the pool, and pool bar for the first day or 2 :D

Looking forward to the party dress, but you're not seriously gonna jump in the pool wearing that are you? A very glamourous (and breif) bikini would seem to fit the bill better ;)
