Hi Trendy,
how is it going for you?
I am on day five! I feel better about not smoking, but am having the sore throat and "cold" feelings that I understand could be side effects to quiting?
but today was the first day in a long time I woke up not craving a cig!!! That is a good sign! I have no cravings so far today, and of course my hunger has been much stronger, but for the first week I am allowing myself to eat what I need, then next monday it is back to the gym full force to see what kind of workout I can REALLY get without smoking!!
Thanks for the welcome. I have been reading the links that you suggested and they are all very helpful so thanks!
Here is a little bit about me;
I started smoking when i was 18 because a girl I liked smoked and i was spending time with her (pathetic i know), but still can't complain too much - she is now my wife. She managed to quit when we were 20 but I have never been able to, mainly because i never wanted to. That all changed when i turned 27 because i realised i have far too much to live for to kill myself slowly like this.
I quit last monday (13th) and have been using patches. I'm OK most of the time because i am determined to quit but the hard times are after meals, first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I passed my first major test today as I was at a BBQ with a large number of friends who smoke, it was easier than i thought it would be because none of them expect me to manage this and i want to prove them wrong.
The realisation that I have come to - and i think it applies to all of us - is that we have all quit for a reason so when I want to give in I just think of that reason and it doesn't seem so hard any more.
My reason - I will never smoke again because part of looking after my family means looking after myself and smoking just doesn't fit in with that.
