Well today's the day, After 29 years I have had enough
Enough of making tobacco companies rich
Enough of Making me poorer
Enough of being looked on like a leper
Enough of standing in freezing cold doorways with all the other junkies
Enough of smoke, ash ill health, tobacco stains and burns
Enough of being a slave to tobacco
I have quit today
I have quit before, once for 11 months but it has never been as inconvenient or more anti social to smoke than it is now and i have come to the conclusion that my life, my health and my bank account would be so much happier and healthier if I didnt smoke..
So good luck to anybody quitting today, and I know the journey wont be easy but I am more determined than ever..

Thanks lindaspicer I am using Patches, I am not brave enough to just stop I did it before using patches and know they make it a lot easier. Before I quit I read lots of books and web sites on quitting, I have Patches, Lozenges, Chewing Gum, hypnotic tapes and books in my arsenal ready to shoot down any Regal or John Players if they rear their ugly head

Welcome to the Forum and good luck with your decision to quit.
A good piece of advice is: if you feel the need to smoke, come on to the forum and post, wait for 4 people to reply before you light up. By that time the crave will have gone. Hey Presto!
Read, Read and read again. Great info in some of the members signatures.

Better late than never!!!
Hello and welcome,
Austin has alluded the fact that while there are all sorts of pills and potions out there to help us quit (and I used lozenges) It appears that all they do is to give us the confidence to have a go at quitting. What enables us to stay stopped is knowledge and understanding about nicotine addiction and what to expect while quitting. The links in my sig do contain a wealth of information and inspiration and are worth checking out.
The mindset you are hoping to achieve is one of someone that does not want to smoke. To get that it is best to regard quitting as a gaining situation (Heath, wealth and control) rather than a huge sacrifice of one of your greatest pleasures!
Thanks to all of you for your kind welcome, support and information, I am doing ok today, I will certainly be using this forum as a tool to help me quit and get to know some of you better..
