keep going ..I don't think I can..
keep going ..I don't think I can..
Of course you can, you've already proved you can by doing more than 2 weeks.
Hey Mandi
You have to, you cannot put yourself through those first few days again...those were a mare!! You are in your third week!! you just have to learn to adjust to a new life...what u did as a smoker you now have to learn as a non smoker.
Someone has used the word association - this is very true ...we associate certain things with smoking....after a meal...out for a drink ...when we wake up. We still need to do these things...meal, drink and wake up ( maybe not in that order, but quite often is) but we are now learning to do them as a non smoker!! we have to lose the association we once had with things and let go of it.
If you are having a tough time..having a smoke again will just depress you further in the light of day ...you know that!! it solves nothing.
Chin up and stay with the onwards and upwards group
Well done chilly and kingbee.
Mandi - did you not get my last pm? My work pc had some kind of internet error as I sent it, so I don't know if it went.
You are feeling a bit sorry for yourself today, aren't you?
I know how you feel, been there - but the problem is that the cravings get worse if you "let them in" by thinking about them too much. They become very difficult to handle. These are only psychological cravings, you are already past the physical ones - so they are literally "in your head".
Find something to occupy your mind when the craving strikes, and simply dismiss them as unimportant. They are.
I find a 10 minute walk cures all ills - others find posting on here a long and harrowing tale about how bad life is helps... whatever it is, after 10 minutes the craving is gone.
2 simple rules.
1) Nothing is made better by smoking - the situation will be what it is, but you've had a fag.
2) Cravings will go whether or not you have a cigarette.
You have done the hard bit, now just relax and deal with each craving as it comes. You can do this. Just put your mind to it...
hi five
the only reason I have not given in tonight is because it is raining...but I am really looking forward to bedtime so I don't have to think about it any more....
wonderful people
I really didn't realise that there was so much support out there, I will not let you all down...tonight anyway! thank you xx

If you give in - you'll be out in all weathers to feed the need!
Thanks mate, and to the rest of you for your ! My cravings are happening very infrequently now! It is so important that the newbies on here realise what has been said about educating and re-conditioning your brain about smoking. This is absolutely essential, and something that I have been doing ever since I first started seriously giving up about 5 years ago. Between then and now, I have stopped a ridiculous amount of times, must be in excess of 30 times, with varying degress of success. I have always given up cold turkey and have never used any nrt at all. It is all in the mind. If you are anything like me, you have reached a stage where to continue is just not an option. It has made me so utterly miserable for too too long. The difference in me as a smoker and non smoker is like night and day. I feel like I have been re-born everytime I give up, like a totally new person, and I will never give up trying to have that feeling every single day for the rest of my life!!
Wise words KINGBEE,
What went wrong with past quits and how will you ensure that you stay quit this time?
Complacency mainly mate, and booze, booze being something I'm starting to feel differently about now too to be honest!
I cannot guarantee anything, but just feel that everytime I quit I get that bit stronger and bit more savvy about the pitfalls. I can guarantee one thing though, as long as I live I will never give up giving up, that for me is the key! I find it amazing that people can flippantly disregard something so damaging as smoking and simply say it is too difficult, I mean WTF!! Somethign that spurs me on alot is thinking about a scenario whereby you think about quitting but dont, then in 30 years time you are diagnosed with terminal cancer. Imagine you are lying there dying a horrible death, thinking how much you wanted to give up but never gave it your all. Grim!! It aint gonna be me!

Good on ya, I hear what you are saying about booze too.
Good luck with it.
