Hello all, i have a slight weakness.....i crave a smoke whenever i have a glass of wine, i know this is common and the obvious solution would be not to drink wine!!! but i luuuurve a nice glass of red now and again and don't want to have to worry about craving when i have one! No idea, I hate wine - and red wine is the work of the devil.

:D

Just have something to fiddle with to hand, something to keep your mind ticking over so you don't think of fags? I find that helps in almost any situation.

Smut and filth aside ;), my advice to you is to face it head on. Why shouldn't you have a bottle or two??

Get through it a number of times and you will begin to not even think about it.

I used to smoke every time I got in the car but I dont think about it any more.

The sooner you face and overcome all your trigger situations the better.

Good luck

As Tomatpots suggests, practice makes perfect - preferably with a non smoking friend that will pin you down at the slightest suggestion that you might smoke.

Personally I like cider, but I'm from Somerset!

Cheers

Nic

Try drinking petrol that should put you off smoking.:D

Depends if you are having food - if you are then go with

Meths with red meat or white spirit with chicken or fish:D

I didn't say I dislike wine, I just prefer cider.

But if I am drinking wine it has to be a good quality full bodied red or proper Champagne.

Haha, same for me with Bells whisky when I was about 15 now over 20 years later I can drink any other whisky but Bells, the smell of which still churns my stomach. The odd thing is that as when I reached my 20's I got just as drunk on things I still enjoy, strange.

Advice from a hardened wine drinker:

The first few times I thought about it but with persistance (and monitoring your intake) the association with smoking goes. You would be surprised how quickly. Plus, you can actually taste the wine. I used to wonder what all the fuss was about because lets face it, all wine tastes like a chewed up fag butt when you smoke.

You have so many nice things to look forward to without the fags!!

I had the same thought , but i went out in to town, perhaps had a pint less or two than normal... made it through.

Now i KNOW I have done it before so there is no excuse I cant do it again.

I also like to stand outside with smokers for the challange and to know if ive done that , I can do it again in future and pretty much anything else.

I also do that at work, my smoking mates think it's so I can breath in the smoke for a small "fix". Until I pointed out where I was standing that is.

Why should I miss out on extra breaks just cos I quit? :D

Theres a misconception that you stand there wishing you can have a fag, when its entirely the other way around, and they are wishing they could stop!

They don't think that anymore... nosmokingday.org.uk/forum/s...

That made them realise that I actually don't want to smoke... that I made this choice because I WANTED to and not because I thought I HAD to.
