:p YES I have stopped smoking. So far I feel good, usually by now I would be climbing the walls for a fag, but not today & NEVER AGAIN will I give in to the nicotine monster. I am finding myself looking to pick up the packet of fags, you know the habit ones, like getting ready on a morning, after a meal, it's automatic, but I'm reminding myself that I DON'T smoke & that I don't miss it, which I don't, I just feel a bit silly that for a split second I forget & go into automatic mode, how long will this last?

I remember opening the compartment in the car where I used to keep fags quite regularly after I quit. I think it stopped being a regular thing in the 2nd or 3rd week.

Glad its going well for you, keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

The reaching for the fag packet can go on for a while but dont worry about it.

just remind yourself that you don't do that anymore if you find it happening.

There will be many triggers along the way but they do get easier to deal with.

read about quitting (links to some great sites in my signature) and you will learn what to expect and how to deal with it.

also post on here!!

one piece of advice which may help is:

if you feel that you are going to have a ciggie, post on here and ask for help.

DONT have the ciggie until you have had at least 4 replies.

(i'll bet that by then you wont want the ciggie anymore;))

Firstly, well done for standing by your decision. You will be surprised how often people set a date for a quit and then decide against it "because.... bla bla bla". So congratulations for taking the first step, without it the others don't exist.

As John says, read read read. The more educated you are the better your chances.

The habit side of my reactions are now starting to go away, I haven't reached for that pack of smokes for a few days now. I just passed 3 weeks.

Good luck, and don't forget that we all know what you're feeling and we will all help as much as we can. It sounds wierd, but enjoy it - because every moment of pain now is several days without at a later date.

:pI'm not having major cravings, yet & I hope that I don't, just a slight empty feeling that won't go away. I'm dealing with it the same way I'd deal with a naughty child, & as I've raised a child with AHDH, I know a bit about it. You know when a child asks for sweets & you've said NO, you have to keep saying NO, otherwise the naughty child will continue to ask & if after his/her asking you a millionth time you cave in then that naughty child knows that if he/she nags long enough or loud enough that you will eventually crack & the nicotine monster at this stage is the same, I said NO to him this morning & I will continue to say NO from now on until he gets the message & shrivels up & dies. I know I don't like smoking & I know that I will NEVER go back to it. The smoker part of me has died & all I have to do now is bury it, the sooner the better. I don't feel like I'm missing it so there is nothing for me to grieve for. THINK POSITIVE, BE POSITIVE.
