Hi guys just wanted to introduce myself as ill really need the support over the next few months and maybe years :).

My name is Rach im 38 and have been smoking since i was about 11-12ish.

About 7 years ago i switched to smoking rolled tobacco and recently ive been having a tickly cough every morning (never had the smokers cough) and this has started to worry me so as of today 18 of August im gonna try and quit. Ive had about 2 attempts before, with patches but it was whilst i was getting my degree (i know wrong time) anyhow got my degree and its time for me to quit.

Thanks for listening xx

Hello and congrats on making the best health decision of your life.

The first few days are hard for most but after that it turns into a

mind game. You will need willpower to beat this thing, but if read some of the

posts here about other quitters it will help pass the time and maybe you can help some others.......WELCOME....:D

1st off well done on making the decision.

Like most other quitters I've had several failed attempts, and thus far have quit for 1 month.

This forum is a great source of support and inspiration. I have found it can be a great distraction to read and post on here when cravings hit.

Best of luck,

Nic.

Hello, Welcome, Congratulations on your very wise decision.

I was a serial quitter, but this time I know I have cracked it, with the help of this forum and by reading as much as I can about the subject.

It took a while for the penny to drop with me, had to read and re-read the same stuff several times (bit slow on the uptake!;)) but my life is so much better smokefree :)

Stay strong, stay focused, stay here and most importantly, stay smokefree! :D

I have been quit for 6 Months, 19 hours, 45 minutes and 2 seconds (182 days). I have saved £914.10 by not smoking 3,656 cigarettes. I have saved 1 Week, 5 Days, 16 hours and 40 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 17/02/2008 22:00

Hi Carol

well done on your decision and good luck with your quit.

One thing which seems to help most people is to eductae yourself about your quit and general stopping.

there are some great links in my signature which will take you to some great stop smoking resources.

I personally found whyquit to be a major help.

Good luck again and keep on posting.

Hi Helen,

Well done for making the decision!

Are you going cold turkey or using something (NRT, Champix, zyban)?

I found distraction is the key to the 1st few days, keep busy and when (or if) cravings hit do something to take your mind off it!

Good luck for tomorrow!

Nic

Hi all, I've been posting away without introducing myself. I stopped on 08/08/08, I hope this is a good omen. I've been using Champix to help me along with attending a smoking cessation group. I am also a Paramedic so if anyone should know the hazards of the weed it's me, right? Cowdung!!! There have been so many educational ads, films, books, flyers ect going around for so long now that no one can now claim that they never knew the pitfalls before taking up smoking, especially the teens and 20-30 somethings.

The main advantage I have is an extensive knowledge of the physiology of tobacco smoking and how it interrupts the normal oxygenating process within the lungs.

That's enough long winded stuff, you'll have gathered I have quite strong feelings on this subject and can get quite involved in it all.
