whinge....weight gain???

My apologies to those who are having sever weight issues as a consequence of/ or independently of smoking but... why can't I put on weight??? ...I can eat and eat and eat and still I resemble a stickman:mad:

At the age of 27 I have passed my prime now and so I don't feel like I can enter for the national hide and seek championships...The only good think I can say about being skinny is that when I fall over I float like a leaf down to terra-firma...I truly wish that as a consequence of giving up smoking I could pile on some pounds but unfortunately for me I am destined it seems to remain 5 foot ten at 9 stone :( ...stupid cigs!

if you read around the forum, mainly the General section, you will hopefully find some info on weight issues as there has been a lot posted about it.

there has been some very interesting stuff posted on here about all kinds of issues surrounding us quitters, nrt, champix, ct , weight gain or loss etc etc but you will have to dig for some of it, but the digging is brill when your having a crave!! :D

The fundamental advice regarding the loss of weight is to eat less and move more.

Therefore I conclude that you are obviously moving too much, and/or too quickly.

Guinness may help and check this article for a high calorie food, mmmm yummy (not).

You may well find that things change as you get into your 30's it did for me, but I know that when I finally started to gain weight I got fewer colds and generally felt and looked healthier.

In my case it only took a few years before the weight piled on faster and faster and I had to do something about loosing it or I'd have ended up looking like Homer Simpson. So enjoy the fact that you can eat what you want at the moment.

How long have you been stopped smoking for? Smoking speeds up the metabolism a great deal. That coupled with us tending to eat more when we quit the smokes, its quite rare, unless one does extra physical activity, that atleast some extra poundage wont appear at some point! :D

Have only given up so far for 3 days, though last time I gave up properly (as opposed to some of my recent one week skirmishes) I was ahem...clean for 2.5 years and still I couldn't find myself when I looked in the mirror!

I have myself to blame though because I do a lot of walking/jogging these days. (but this has only been so for the last year, prior to that I drove pretty much everywhere)

bloody hell someone like me im 28 weight 7 stone have done for ever cept when i was pregnant but went bk down to 7 the day i had my son, im not joking wish i was, then went to 6st 8lb went up to 7st 4 on the pill a few weeks ago n when i had my 7 day break lost what weight i did put on lol typo me im hopin without the fags i will pile on the pounds. lol

Hi Grega,

Well Your loss or none gain of weight has probably nothing to do with quitting smoking, I have a friend who is 15 kilograms under her ideal weight and she needs to pile up as you see a lot of kilos.

I recommend that you visit a nutreologyst , he/she will probably ask you to take some blood tests basicly to see how your particular system works. Perhaps the problem is that your body is unable to accept or grab some substances or nutrients in certain meals and therefore you are the way you are, and the best answer would be to change your diet. But not just change it as you please, a doctor needs to tell you what your body needs.

I have read that in order to gain weight besides eating healthy food ( by healthy i mean all food variations and specialy carbs), it also helps to have a multi-vitamin pill daily.

So good luck gainning weight! and congrats on quitting smoking! :p

Do NOT whinge for being so thin you would hate it X10 if your were morbidly obese instead.

There is only one solution to your bony arses, as long as you have no medical condition like a thyroid issue you can gain weight - good weight.

You DO NOT want to gain unsightly fat so do not wish for that. GO TO THE GYM, speak to a fitness trainer, bulk up, take protein shakes - there are milkshakes with thousands of good calories in them that will bulk you up - but you MUST train and hard and you will look very very fine.

I train damned hard but i do it without the shakes , only because I can gain weight very quickly. If i had an issue with weight gain i would defo take the shakes in fact i wish i could and train like a demon and look ripped.

Best advice is see a fitness instructor/nutritionist down your gym.

Within 3 months you will notice a massive differene i guarantee it, and as a non smoker you can train longer and harder - when i was smoker i was useless, now when i train people book tickets to watch me tear up the treadmill. I have been responsible for burning out 3 treadmills down my gym, i destroy them.

I agree with antifag..........If you have no health issues I would not worry about gaining weight.Im 46 and I can gain weight easily,when I was 20 to 35

I could eat everything and not gain weight.:D

LOL - i remember those days.

I am 32 now.

In my 20's I would eat kebabs, burger king, KFC!! MMMMMmmmm, chips, chinese, indian CONSTANTLY.

Burger king were doing an offer whoppers £1 each. I used to eat 3 or 4 a DAY !!! as well as drinking shit loads of beer (student fun)

Now if i even look at a 'SANDWICH' the wrong way I will put on a pound. It started happening late twenties and is getting worse. I have to go to the gym at least 3 times a week, restrict myself to 1 take out every 2 weeks, drink NO MORE than 3 days a week to ATTEMPT to stay around 13 stone.

Also I realise as you get older your mentality adapts and you prefer good food and nights in rather than good nights out and bad food. Food becomes a bigger part of your life. It is something i have been thinking about and philosophising about. If i get to the answer, i'll let y'all know. basically, Personally i think demographics and social behaviour adapt as well as metabolisms as you get older which contribute to weight gain.

I gained 30 pnds when I quit but since have lost 15......

I feel better with the extra weight.

I agree too. I was very thin all through my 20's and 30's then i started to put on the weight and now i cant stop it.
