Since quiting smoking i have been waiting to get a cold just to see how long it would be before i felt normal again.
When i was a smoker i had on average 2 colds a year but they would last for ages, some times 2 or 3 weeks then they wouldn't totally go, ear blockages, sore chest as a result of coughing for so long, sore throat.
It was always bad on my chest.
Now 2 days into my cold i`m starting to feel better.
I often think back how crazy i was to smoke like crazy when i had a cold.
no wonder i felt sick for so long.
all the people on there quit remember the benefits of staying smoke free.
Andy

I'd smoke through my colds and so I'd have a cough for about a month after the cold had gone. Sometimes that would mean the last cough wouldn't have cleared up before the next cold came along so coughing became an almost permanent feature in the winter months. The amazing thing was that when I quit smoking, the hacking cough I'd had for a couple months cleared up in less than one week.
Heh I too used to smoke even when I had a cold/fever/the flu - nothing could stop me, really God, we were such freaks!
Good to hear you're going strong Andy and quickly recovering from your cold - it's such a relaxing and comforting thing to come here and see older quitters stop by and share their progresses with us
I'm happy to hear that the colds probably won't last as long now that i am a non smoker. I smoked through colds and flus as well and i remember having the worst sore throat and the worst cough, but just had to have that ciggie anyway. Pop in halls and puff away cause the smoke would just kill the chest and the throat. I guess having a cold and sore throat won't be so bad now
I started to feel rough Friday night when i started my 12 hour night shift.
My throat in the early hours of Saturday was red sore, just to swallow gave me lots of pain.
After 4 hours sleep on Saturday morning my throat was OK, just goes to show that smoking irritates your throat and lungs.
I work for BMW and since my quit many of the staff there have commented how well i look.
I am so determined not to smoke ever again. When i was feeling low in the beginning of my quit first 3 months i would type smoking, lung cancer and read.
Good luck to every one on there quit.

I think all of us smokers have been there. I even smoked in the hospital with pnumenoia. Dumbass I was. I am on day 5 again and I feel so much better. I can walk up stairs now without huffing and puffing, breathe freely and no chest tighting.
