Here We Go Again.......

Right...here we go. Just had my last, (hopefully), smoke. I've been a smoker for a long, long time, and now I really want to kick the habit. I've stopped in the past for a couple of months at a time, then back to 20 a day. I've been smoking 10 cigars a day for a couple of years now, and the thing is...I'm fed up with it.

Gum and lozenges give me horrendous hiccups, and patches irritate me. I've got the Boots microtabs this time, so fingers crossed!

Reading some of the postings on this forum is inspirational. I'm hoping you all inspire me to greater things! Well done to you all.

Keep up the good work.

Good luck!

What works for some doesn't work for all. I'm on patches, they help me whereas my friend said that they irritated him and therefore it reminded him of cigarettes constantly. You've got to not think about them at all, shut them out - if they cross your mind go and do something else. It's just what they tell you at the clinic but its logical.

Good luck, this is my fourteenth time. My last time cus i'm not going to need to do it again.

Hi Allan

How's it going? I was just reading a survey that said 99% of people were helped in their successful smoking quit by reading the ramblings of complete loonies on a forum!!!!:D

Seriously...we're all here for you

Hi Allen,

Haven't had chance to welcome you as I've been at work. What quit method r u using.? I'm on zyban failed with Patches, not strong enough for cold turkey, losengers gave me disgusting indigestion and the gum hurt my teeth! So you r certainly not alone here.

Karen:)

Thanks for all the encouraging replies. What a torrid time I'm having! I'm afraid I fell off the wagon...not once, but twice! The microtabs are just as bad...they're giving me horriffic hiccups as well. I really do wish there was a magic solution! Anyway, onwards and upwards! Think I'll get a doctors appointment to find out a bit more about Zyban. Untill then, I'll stick with the hiccups! This is such a difficult habit to kick.

Has the Zyban any side effects? It sounds too good to be true!

Well done to all you non smokers. Keep up the good work.

Allan

Zyban affects alot of folk in many ways. Some people feel so icky on it they end up chucking! Others, however, like me are pretty ok with it.The only side effect I suffered was a slightly dry mouth which was easily solved by drinking water or fruit juice. I also have to go see my local practice nurse to get my blood pressure checked each week as apparently Zyban can cause raises. I'm coming up to the end of my 3rd week now (its a 2 mth course) and its ok. One thing that is great with it is it takes the 'hit' from cigs. So when you smoke (you have to keep smoking for 10-14days b4 you stop) cigs have no 'pleasure' In fact they taste disgusting.I personally am finding it more difficult to resist the 'habit'

of smoking. As zyban is a non nicotine treatment I realise the nicotine is gone from my body so the cravings I am getting are purely pyschological but they are so very real to me. On the plus side it does make the withdrawal symptoms easier. Any more questions just ask ! Karen:)

not every method works for every person! otherwise there would be 1 cure all.

Try and find a cessation person through your doctor or pharmacist they are so good! in my experience that is!

Tis a cliche i know but so true  if at first you don't succeed try and try again x x

Learn from experience x x
