My husband has been on Acyclovir 400 mg 2 times a day for the past year as preventive. He has been on it while on chop as well as new clinical trial. He has had a rash on his upper torso and on his face for the past 2 months. Has anyone else been on acyclovir and if so for how long? Any skin reactions? Just hoping that thie diagnosis of skin follicular lymphoma is not the case and that it’s a skin lallergy

Acyclovir
Hi Eleni,
I've been on Acyclovir since 2012, my doctor (Richard Furman NY Presbyterian) uses it to reduce the risk of reactivating shingles.
In March 2018 I got my first injection of Shingrix vaccine, and will get the second injection in May. If we can confirm the vaccine is working, I hope to stop taking Acyclovir, but I really don't want to have shingles.

Thank you for your response Len. You said it's used to reduce risk of reactivating shingles, have you ever had shingles? My husband never had shingles. I have heard it is extremely painful
I have never had them but my mother and siblings have. They are reported to be extremely painful and may leave permanent nerve damage.

I have been on acyclovir since 2012 when I had chemo etc for follicular lymphoma and had shingles and mouth ulcers etc. Following the chemo my immune system is 'shot' so continue to take it to prevent any recurrence.
My wife had shingles in June-July 2017. Her oncologist put her on 1000MG Valtrex once a day. In January 2018 he reduced it to 500MG once a day. She had no side effects to Valtrex.
