Hello dear friends!

In the US they recommend don’t travel until 3 months post transplant, and wait 6-12 months to go out of the country. Did you let your transplant team know you are going? You should ask them for their recommendation. They might want to look at your recent white count or something medical. WEAR A MASK. I refuse to travel by plane anywhere. I’m one year and 4 months out. Nothing is more importnat to me than staying healthy.
Hi,
In Ireland we are not allowed to leave the country for 12 months. If it’s absolutely necessary talk to your doctors and take extra caution. Your immune system is at its lowest in the first 12 months.
Take care
I’m 3 and 1/2 years out and I still wear a mask on an airliner. I think I will for now on.
Everyone that I know and hear of that gets Covid these days, got it on a plane.
Ask your transplant team. I took a 2 hour flight around 4 months for my Mother's funeral. Everything went great. I wore a mask everywhere. In preparing to go, I did learn a few things that you might want to consider. My nephrologist told me that the prohibition on flying is not just about potential infections, but also blood clots as is the case with any major surgery. If you are on blood thinners, that might also be a problem.
We are all different and on different immunosuppressant medications. Best to double check with your transplant team for their recommendations. I took a 3 hour flight in the US when I was 8 months post transplant. I am now almost 25 years out from my transplant and take 2-3 trips a year, I didn't have a transplant to just sit inside my home. I live my life and enjoying travel with friends and family.
I needed to travel at 5 months after transplant (for my donor's memorial service). My transplant doctor gave me permission. I wore a heavy-duty mask but still came home with RSV. I was sick for about three weeks, but got over it. As others have said, ask your transplant doctor. My transplant center made it clear that if I did not follow their instructions, they could refuse to consider me for a future transplant, should it be needed.
Notify your transplant team. If they approve it, wear the best possible mask you can find and do not take it off for any reason. Carry hand sanitizer and use it often. Wear compression socks to avoid blood clots.
The first flight after transplant is nerve racking. I notified my team and follow their recommendarions. 1st. Pack your medicines in your hand bag. I also brought a medical repoer in case rhey wondered why so many medicines. Bring enough and extras, in case of delays. I bought good quality masks for the airport and plane. I brought disinfectant towels. I also had my partner wear a mask. Then, I was staying in a hotel and that made me bercous. So, I chose one with good cleaning raitings. Everything went well! I travelled by car and stayed at hotels 3 months after transplant. I travelled by plane at 6 months, and I travelled abroad 1 year and 3 months after transplant. I had no issues with infections. I just got some stomach issues that were treated by a local doctor. I always consult with my transplant center and I can count on them to give me good advise.
No Dude please sit back in your house avoid public interaction and tour till 1 year after your transplant it may cause infection in your kidney
