I just had my transplant evaluation appointment. I am trying to get on the transplant list with Piedmont hospital in Georgia. I would like to do multiple registrations in a couple of states but my Kaiser coordinator was discouraging. I was wondering what type of financial consequence I will face if I go ahead and do that. The wait time at piedmont is around 2.5years but that includes people who have living donors and that makes the wait time look better. My expectation is about 5 years. I am not yet on dialysis

No one can stop you from applying to other places. However, you have to be mindful of the regions because you can only list in one region. Now having said that, it might be only NY who does tha
I hope you can accomplish your goal of cross listing at another transplant center. Kaiser is an HMO so they apparently designated only one transplant center in its region that they're willing to support. I wonder if you can find another Kaiser facility in a different area/state that supports a different transplant center and you can cross list with it? I hope that might work for you. My husband cross listed at two centers and he received his transplant at the more distant, but far busier, center. (He was on Medicare with a United Supplemental Plan so there weren't many restrictions.) After we found out our closest transplant center had a very long wait list, we did a lot of research to find a center with a shorter list. This is a wonderful link that shows the outcomes of all the transplant centers across the US: srtr.org/transplant-centers...
Thank you
Hi. Do you have a Kaiser transplant coordinator? I have a Kaiser transplant coordinator and the regular hospital transplant coordinator. My Kaiser transplant coordinator has been extremely helpful with getting things done on my behalf especially when it comes to dealing with my transplant hospital and testing and not being removed from the wait list. She has been a great advocate for me.
It may depend on what your insurance allows. You need to find out. The Mayo Clinic does Kaiser transplants, in Phoenix, AZ. I had to wait only 11 months and three weeks there. I met someone, only 7 months. They do the most transplants in the US, about 500. Average wait however is 2-3 years. This is your life. Take control. Keep researching. I wish you the best of luck.
