Moving out of state and keeping nephrologist?

Hello, I'm writing to ask those who are in the United States if you’ve moved to another state and continued to see your nephrologist/transplant team in the previous state of residence. I’ve done this before and was able to continue seeing my transplant team, but I had to fly back to see them in person. They were able to prescribe medicine for home mail delivery out of state.

I’m considering relocating to another state again for a job. My current nephrologist and transplant team and in network for my insurance. But with telemedicine now, I wonder how it works if they can practice out of state? Has anyone moved since or during pandemic and experiences any issues with seeing out of state medical practitioners?

I had my transplant out of state and so have always dealt with a transplant team on the other side of the US (I am on West Coast and got transplant on East Coast). It isn't practical to fly there and so we do all clinic visits (after the first 2 months, during which I lived near the transplant hospital, temporarily) via zoom. I do have a local nephrologist who "sees" me here (but with Covid, I am concerned about in person visits and so I do those thru telemed, too). I am lucky that I've been relatively healthy and so it has worked out for me. For any potential emergency treatment I need related to my transplant, my team has sent my records to a local transplant hospital locally. Hope that helps you.

My transplant team and transplant Nephrologist are 2 hours away. They like me to have a local Nephrologist to coordinate any emergencies that would require me to be at a local hospital. But, I call or email my transplant team for any questions I have or small issues that come up. They remain my “main” doctors.
