I had training and gave my grams manual peritoneal dialysis for 30 days. She is now on the Liberty cycler and I go there every night and set her up. This is week 3 on the cycler and she wants to quit. She turns 90 tomorrow and wants to know if she will ever feel better. She gets lightheaded a lot with the lower blood pressure. She says she feels foggy in the brain and doesn't want to do things like she used to. I want to tell her it's normal and things will get better, but will they?

Help me help my grams
Have her check with her pd nurse. They should be on call and make house visits to check to see if everything is ok. There may be adjustments needed to make her more comfortable. I was on pd and would go back if needed.
Yes I definitely think that you should check with the PD nurse,! I was on the liberty machine for eighteen months and for the first six months I had so many issues mainly it was hurting when it was time to drain the fluid out of my belly and they had to keep adjusting the prescription until they finally got it right.! Don’t be afraid to reach out to your home dialysis team that’s what they are there for to help and make you feel comfortable. Good luck and God bless🙏
Drain Pain is real...I use the Amia Cycler and when they saw I was sensitive to the Drain Pain they put my machine on what they called Tidal Wave...helps alot..I really only feel it on the Initial Drain, so I try to distract myself with TV or a game on my phone or reading..it usually only lasts about a minute or so...I also wonder if her cath may be a little clogged, another question for her Nurse...lots of things they can do for that too... They say it usually takes up to 3 months to feel better...some sooner...I felt better almost immediately, but we are all different...Tell her to hang in there and Bless you for loving your Grams
I was on a Liberty machine too. I had my prescription changed to Tidal (first fill was 1200, but would only drain 1100 until the last drain) and had the flow in and drain out time lowered. The change in fluid too quickly affected me neurologically. Older people are more sustainable to this. What a wonderful grandchild to care for your grandmother like this!
Just want to echo Jepsos statement that you're a wonderful grandchild to care for your grandmother. May the blessing that you are to your grandmother return to you in abundance in the future.
