I am 3 months post transplant. Prior to having my transplant I always had a minor problem with gastric reflux but now its out of control. I'm taking 40 mg of prilosec twice a day but it does very little. I cough a large volume of stomach acid throughout the day. Night time is even worse. It leaves my throat and nose on fire. In addition, when eating it feels like the food get stucks about 1/4 of the way down. Even water has a bit of a problem going down. I have an endoscopy coming up hoping to get to the bottom of this. Just wondering if other transplant recipients have experienced the same thing.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Stay healthy, stay safe.

Hi!Yes, I have had some of the same problems with acid reflux. My transplant team had told me that my immunosuppressants were the cause of mine. I am 21+ years post transplant and have to take omeprazole twice a day.
I am glad they are doing the endoscopy so they can check things out. If not caught in time, you could wind up with an ulcer
Take care of yourself. Always report all of your symptoms to your transplant team.
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, i have developed severe bleeding ulcers. The results of my endoscopy were alarming.
The number of ulcers is amazing, however, it does explain why it feels like food gets stuck about half way down. I have a hard time even with water getting stuck. This has me really worried. I have a history of renal cell carcinoma. I'm on pins and needles waiting for the esophageal biopsy results.
a 'good many', of the Drugs, that we are all given CAN cause 'Acid Reflux', and, since you already had a problem..... You need to bring this, to the attention of, your own Transplant Team who, I'm sure, can help Resolve this for you.
You could speak to your own GP, of you can get an appointment, or your Local Pharmacist- an often 'overlooked' resource. I would advise AGAINST 'Home Remedies' you could, very well, do More Harm Than Good.
Your 'best bet' is your Transplant Team- or Hospital Consultant.
Thanks for the follow-up. Unfortunately, I have started coughing up stomach acid every day and have now developed bleeding ulcers. I have an appointment coming up with my transplant surgeon to discuss what to do next.
