Hi, hope everyone is doing well.

I was curious, does anyone get a bit of a weird feeling around their transplanted kidney/scar area?

I mentioned it to my transplant surgeon yesterday at clinic and she’s booked me in to get a scan done to check it.

I do. I was told it was the nerves trying to grow back. How long has it been since your transplant?

I get a twinge of pain over the area every couple of weeks. It comes and goes just as quickly. I have had it since the transplant 10 years ago.

Is it pain or more of a strange sensation? I sometimes get twitching or a tight feeling around the scar area, especially during dynamic exercises. Nephrologist says it’s most likely due to nerve damage from te surgery as well as nerves growing back, and the sensation might come and go indefinitely.

Yes it’s definitely a strange sensation, especially when I sit with my legs crossed and lean forward I’ve got the scan an hour before my clinic appointment so hopefully will just be something like that

I use it as a reminder of how far I have come post kidney failure and to sometimes slow down if it feels to much of a burn and that is 40 years out from the transplant. But also developed a hernia along the scar that had to be repaired about 20 years ago due to my younger care-free days. Be Safe

I do also. Sometimes I feel a heartbeat that's very strong. I have had my new kidney almost 2 years.

Yes, I still do sometimes. My team said it's the nerves growing back. The first year, I felt like a lump was there, but that feeling slowly went away. Almost two years since transplant, still feel that weird feeling now and then. Just a good reminder of the generouse gift I recieved from a stranger. Take care .
