Belatacept headache?

Has anybody experienced headaches as a side effect of belatacept? I had my first infusion two days ago and I have had a dull headache since yesterday. Just wondering if the two are actually correlated.

Are you on both tacrolimus and belatacept?

No, I had my last dose of tac the morning of my infusion of bela.

I hope your headache is better. Why did they switch you? You had your surgery very recently no?

They determined Tac was causing poor function in the new kidney from a recent biopsy. I guess that’s not an uncommon thing. Tac can do harm to the organ sometimes.

I am glad they cought the rejection episode early. Headache can be nonspecific so it is not possible to say it is because of the infusion. Give yourself a.couple of.days to rest. I hope the new protocol works well for you.

Hello! I did have and do have headaches directly after I get the I infusion. I find that if I take two tylenol just before that helps. I am just about one year into the infusions and the headaches have subsided. I usually feel kind of like I have the flu the first 24 hours but again, the tylenol has helped. The side effect I'm dealing with now is joint pain, especially in my hands. Good luck!

Thank you so much for the Tylenol tip! And I totally felt kind of flu-ish so I’m (sort of) glad that’s normal. I’m so sorry about the joint pain and I hope that subsides like the headaches did. It’s so hard to treat pain as a kidney/transplant patient!

Do you know how Belatacept causes hand pain?

Not really sure. It started about 3 months after I began the infusions. I read that joint pain was a possible side effect and so that's all I can contribute it to. It's bothersome in my thumbs and pointer fingers and sometimes my elbows are sore to the touch.
