Hello, I am 10 years post kidney transplant patient. I have osteoporosis, I have lately had some painful knee pain. Curious if anyone else may have osteoporosis, and how you deal with the joint pain. Thanks

I massage my joints with hemp oil with essential oils added, or CBD cream. Each provides sufficient relief for me.

I was told I couldn't use that as I take prograf. Interferes. Hope you're not on that.

You mean CBD? I do not take oral CBD. It is a cream.

Thanks Lisa, who long have you had joint pain? and do you have knee pain? Thanks

I have always had joint pain. The pain is related to a syndrome, not specifically osteoarthritis as there is no degeneration. I got the recommendation from people with RA and these topical remedy helps with relief of pain. Of course the pain will return, this is why I use good carrier oil like hemp seed oil so it is good for the skin too.

Lisa, what type specific type hemp oil? Thanks Lisa

Hemp seed carrier oil. You can in fact use it for cooking too. I add black pepper, ginger, and copaiba essential oils to it at 4% concentration. Reputable companies to buy these from include Mountain rose herbs, Plant therapy, or Eden's Garden.

Or, if you don't want to make them yourself, the following 2 products by the Badger company really help me with pain while smelling wonderful (LOVE their physical sunscreens too, which is very important for us).

Note: these oils do not contain CBD or THC. It is with essential oils added that they synergistically produce pain relief effect. If you are new to making your own blend I would try the Badger products first.

Where do you get the CBD cream? Does it stay out of your system? I'm not allowed THC in my blood since I'm a nurse.

Here is one, they also have a version without EO. There are no THC in these products. planttherapy.com/cbd-iso-jo...

I'm 8&1/2 yrs post transplant. I've been on prednesone & also have osteoporosis. My pain comes & goes by itself, & I can't understand that. My hip bothers me if I walk too much. 2 yrs ago my left knee pain was so bad I could hardly walk. It hasn't hurt since. I sure don't understand. Dr reduced my prednesone from 5mg to 2.5 daily. Good luck

Hi Drdetroit, My hip pain come and goes; this knee pain use to come and go, but now it really bothers me to the point I'm limping. That is great your prednesone was reduced, Itake 5mg once a day. Thanks, and take care.

If your pain is isolated to the hips you should get a DEXA scan to make sure there is no loss of bone.

in reply toLisaSnow

Hi Lisa, I just had a DEXA scan the other day. Thanks

Just a side note from my end, my niece is a Ortho Surgeon, She once told me to lose weight reason every extra pound of body weight creates 10 lbs impact on your most used joints daily, ... It helped me a lot, I have lost 50 lbs in the last 10 years - ( I have had arthritis for more than a decade.. so far so good)

in reply toLionkin

Hi Lionkin, Wow that is alot more impact per extra weight. I do not need to lose any weight, I only weigh about 148 pounds at 5 '7". I do not have arthritis yet. Thanks, and take care.

39 yrs post transplant having taking predisone for 41 yrs added to age = joint pain. PT has been my life saver and I have continued the exercises even when no longer in PT. But now waiting results of MRI as I may have torn meniscus. So I may be combining PT and will be looking into the hemp oil lisa was talking about since we have to avoid nsaids and staying mobile is so important to reducing the joint pain. My son has been trying to get me to use the oil and including CBD for pain. FYI bike riding is good for the knees in keeping the joints moving. Good luck

Hi, pops81, wow 39 years post transplant that is great. Im 10.5 years post kidney transplant.Im just having certain tests done now, I also take predisone, my labs are great according to my kidney dr. I do work out 2-3 times a week, mostly the bike now, gyms are closed now; some are open but have equipment outdoors, so only limited gym equipment to use. Take care pops81.
