Hi! I’m one month post kidney transplant and i’ve gain a good 15 pounds since i came home! I always have this feeling of being hungry. At first i would cave into that feeling. But soon realized that i wasn’t really hungry. I’ve been exercising 5 times a week at home and go on daily walks (3-5 km/day). My transplant team is slowly bringing my cortisone dose down.

I have gained weight also since my transplant 6 &1/2 yrs ago, about 35 lbs. My Nephroligist says 30 lbs is fluid retention. Your appetite will be better & add some weight Cut out all sugar & simple Carbs, that will help tremendously.Good Luck

I’m 3 months post transplant and I’ve gained 15 lbs since. I am staying away from carbs and walking 1.5-2 miles every other day. I’ve noticed that the day I take my weight and did not walk the prior day I put on at least a pound. The day I take my weight and did walk the prior day I drop around a pound. So I think the walking, which is done outside, Is helping me maintain a steady weight. Since I do outside I don’t have to worry much about Covid.

I’m 16 months post transplant and I have lost 57 lbs. Odd, I guess it affects us all differently. I will say that I have eliminated junk food except for a once a week indulgence. Other than that, I eat sensibly and NEVER EAT ANYTHING past 6:30pm,. I mean ANYTHING.

I should have mentioned that prior to transplant I was on dialysis for 3 months. I lost 15 pounds during that time and after surgery I was down another 15 pounds for a total of 30 pounds. I’ve put on the 15 since and still down 15. I also have junk food once per week. Agree it does affect everyone differently. Good luck to you.

Hi Katie , you and I are I. The same exact boat . I too had a kidney and pancreas transplant and have gained abt 20 lbs. have you lost the weight since you last posted ? Next month will be 2 years for me since having the surgery .

Yes!! I'm also at 19 months post kidney transplant. Just started gaining weight the past three months. Up to 130 lbs, very depressing and uncomfortable. Pre dialysis days my weight was 105-110. I'm not eating differently. Just really dissappointed. But I am happy to have the kidney after almost four years dialysis.
