Hello I’m 9 years post transplant and have gained about 40 pounds after the rejection and second transplant. I’ve lost about twenty after understanding what function the kidney plays un bloating and weight gain. Read up on it to get a new prospective, if your kidney is only sub-working I’m still at stage 4 but not on any dialysis. Anyway what seems to work for me is low carb -almost no bread or starch. And protein at each meal, not a lot but some. Egg or eggs for breakfast, lunch meat and cheese for lunch -no bread maybe a small amount of fruit or little lettuce, then meat and vegetable for dinner. If I’m hungry and need a snack either a cheese stick or nuts. You’ll lose weight but if you eat the carbs it’s goes back on so it’s a trade off - it’s slow going but works. You won’t miss the carbs once your off them. Oh yes, eliminate sugar too if you can. And for all the women out there I do allow myself one ir two squares of 86%chocolate per day for snack or dessert. Hope it helps, keep in touch let me know if it works for you.

I am 12 weeks out from my transplant. Low carb is the only way I can lose weight. I'm 53 now so it is slow going! Lie carb was the only way I lost weight even prior to my transplant. It is a lifestyle for sure.
I'm 8 yrs. post transplant & been low carb for many yrs. Hard to be very vigilent taking Prednesone. Eliminating sugar & simple carbs are amazing what it does for your body. More energy, sleep better, no gas, no acid reflux & weight loss
