First you have to talk to your nephrologist about your qualifications for transplant. These seem to vary from state to state, some are more strict than others, so you have to find out. If you’re healthy enough and meet the criteria, you will be placed on a list, and as soon as a suitable match becomes available you’ll be called for immediate surgery. If you have family or friends that might donate, they can be tested also to see if they match your needs. Typically it takes a few years to get a match, some have been lucky enough to get an immediate match, some like myself wait up to ten years. It all depends on availability. Does that help? I’m available for anything else you may wish to ask. Good luck.
