Cretanine after kidney transplant.

My creatinine is 1.23 after 6 month normal range 1.17 hai..is it OK in fifth month creatinine was 1.14..anything to worry..

Ish123: No, nothing to worry. I understand that blood (serum) creatinine is a measure of kidney function (estimated glomerular filtration rate eGFR is much better gauge). Normal range is 0.5 to 1.0 mg/dL. It goes up when kidney fails and comes down when a transplanted kidney takes over. Is there something to worry when it comes down too fast, or in 5 months? I don't know for sure, but I think it is OK. Hope somebody else can chime in here. Do you feel good? Jerem. Good luck.

Creatinine at 6 to 12 months after transplant is different for everyone. We just found out my spouse's donated kidney the creatinine for him swings from 1.6 to 2.1, but lately hovering often at 1.6, which is great. His doctor very recently found who received the 'other' kidney and found that this recepient's creatinine is almost mirroring my husband's. It takes a while due to so many meds and changes in meds to know what is "normal" creatinine for each person. HIs GFR is doing very well at 40, highest yet.

Without getting too technical here is my take on creatinine levels. In order to really look at actual kidney function, you need to look at both the BUN and creatinine, within the basic metabolic panel(BMP) of blood work. If the creatinine is elevated, take a look at the accompanying BUN lab. If the BUN is also elevated, that may be due to dehydration(lack of adequate fluid intake). As a pharmacist if I see elevated creatinine along with elevated BUN.....I will recheck labs in 24 hours. A diet high in protein will also increase BUN, alternatively a diet low in protein will lower the BUN. There are also all the ratios and calculations to take into consideration. What we look for are the trends in levels, and as always...drink your fluids, then drink more !!
