I understand your fear but please don’t panic or search for the miracle, which is usually a way to take your money. If she lives a healthy lifestyle, it could be a long time before she needs a transplant. There are many great nephrologists and centers all over the country. Go to the National Kidney Foundation Web site to learn from a reliable source. Prayers with you and your family.

I agree with marcyc. I would make sure that she finds a good nephrologist who is fully engaged in her care. Nkf is a good source of information as is American Assoc of Kidney patients (aakp).

I am O negative and just had my transplant about a month ago from my best friend.

Thank you and happy that you were able to have a transplant.

Encourage her to find a highly educated doctor who LISTENS to her, and makes her a partner in her care. Never stop asking questions and never stop doing your own research.

Hi Darndt, I’m 26 and was diagnosed with stage 3 CKD this year. I understand how worried you will feel but if your daughter is in the early stages hopefully making diet and lifestyle changes now will stop the progression from being rapid. I’m in the UK so not sure on donors but I wouldn’t worry too much about that at this moment in time as you can live with early stage renal disease for years and years without ever ha inv the need for a transplant. As other people have said make sure you find a decent nephrologist who sends for the relevant tests and keeps up to date with blood tests etc, good luck to your daughter this website is brilliant for help and advice
