Hello all. I just received my transplant after 5 yrs on the waiting list. Its only been 6 weeks since the surgery and so far I'm doing well. My transplant was from a cadaver and initially was a " sleepy kidney " which meant a lot of visits to the hospital. But as of now , my numbers are looking better and the kidney is slowly starting to wake up. They sure dont tell you that you'll be tired, achy, and anxious. Ive been told that to feel totally :normal" it will take about a year. Im just thankful to have the chance to be off the machines and be around for my grandkids.

Congratulations ... I hope there is continued health for you ... I am now 3+ years post kidney/pancreas transplant and it did take me a good year before my body “felt” stronger ... best wishes for you !!!
I am so happy for you!! Just hang in there and take you meds on time. So glad you can be with your grands now!! My husband has been on dialysis for eighteen years and doesn’t want a transplant. I’ve had my transplant for eleven years now. Mine was from a cadivar too. But it started working soon as connected. You’ll do fine!! Congratulations!!

Hello,
Yes, not being connected to the machines is awesome.
I didn't know about the anxiety either. Talk to your family doctor & if you want, there are meds that can help you with that feeling. Don't feel alone. There are other's of us with the same feeling.
I'm 2yrs post transplant & they've gotten a little worse lately, but my family doctor has been in full support & is helping me tweak the meds for depression & anxiety. The Prednisone reeks havoc on our emotions.
Most people think the transplant fixes "everything". It fixes a lot, but not all. Don't get me wrong, I would still go through with the transplant. I just wish I was more educated on the drug side effects before surgery. Being prepared for these feelings would have been great.
Congrats on your transplant & listen to your transplant team.
Congratulations on your new Kidney. I was on blood thinners before I had my procedure. So a week after my transplant I was standing up and blood was running down my leg. I thought a couple of staples had came out. Went to emergency the staples were fine but the bleeding was because of the blood thinners. It took about 3 weeks for it to clear up and stop bleeding.
Congratulations on the transplant. Tomorrow is my 18th transplant anniversary!!!! I also had a cadaver kidney, but started working immediately. Post transplant can definitely be challenging with the meds, etc. But LIFE is wonderful! Enjoy your kids and grandkids. I am so glad I am around to experience it all! Best of luck.
Thank-you .I am looking forward to feeling " normal " again and spending time with family.
I just wanted to say thank-you all for the support. This seems like a great community, and am glad I found it ! Thanks again !
