Just try to eat healthily. If you are taking prednisone, and you have never taken it before, be prepared for food cravings unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. It is hard to resist the siren call. Drink LOTS of water.

I tried all types of diers after transplant, weight watchers, southbeach diet etc and the one i found that has worked for me is Optavia. I have losted 50 lbs and have kept it off. I became a health coach with there program because i loved it so much!

I wanted to try Octavia but my nephrologist said she didn't recommend that program because it was too high in protein. Did your doctor have any concerns and has your kidney function changed at all? I'm 7.5 years post- transplant. Best wishes to you.

How much protein does your doctor want you to eat each day?

The doctor or a post transplant coordinator should be looking at your blood work every time you have it done. Mine tells me everything after the results come back.

If they aren't, make an appointment & ask lots of questions. Ask them to explain each thing tested & how each one affects the body. Ask for a copy of your blood work. It should give you your number & the normal range for each test done. If you don't understand, ask them to explain it again. That's what they are there for.

Hope this helps.

A diet high in protein right after transplant is important to help with rebuilding a lot of the muscle breakdown that happened during your operation and also from the high dose of anti-rejection drugs. Even after transplant, a diet higher in protein will help you feel satiated longer especially if you have increased appetite or cravings from prednisone. I cover this in a video I recently uploaded. Feel free to check it out :) youtu.be/MjMhAODEX3o

If you send me email i can forward you a document that you can bring to your doctor. My email is eandjkahn@gmail.com.

Basic information is our 5 and 1 program is between 800-1000 calories a day, atleast 78 grams of protein, 80-100 grams of carbs. Each persons program can be customized. We have a diabetes program, nursing mothers program, gout just to name a few of the customized programs. These may have more calories but less protein.
