One year post donation

Hi all. I am a little over a year from donating a kidney to my little brother. I have the episodes of deep aching pain. There's very little info regarding chronic pain after donation. Has anyone experienced this or have any tips to deal with it?

Congrats to you and hoping your brother is doing really well with his gift of life from you!I donated over 15 years ago. I do remember occasionally feeling an unidentifiable pain every now and again where the removed kidney would have been. I did find out that they were called PHANTOM PAINS from nerve endings in the area. The pains were not severe nor debilitating in any way, just there at times. I don't remember the last one I had, but I can tell you it was MANY MANY years ago.

Hoping this helps, even a little.

Glad to hear they seem to fade with time. Thanks for the response ❤️

Hello! I’m only one month post-donation, but this just came up with my doc at my last follow-up when I mentioned sharp phantom pain sometimes. Given I’m not that far out of surgery it’s likely more of the nerve repair for me, but my doc did say that some donors report this happening from time to time for a couple of years, but that it should pass quickly and eventually fade altogether.

I am 14 months post-donation and have not experienced this at all. Talk to your doctor. You want to rule out anything else that could be causing this.
