Hi MPK0706

Sorry to hear that. It is this roller coaster of emotion. I was so happy when there was potential donor that was willing to get evaluated for me. Then going from that, to a low of person getting rejected and wondering when and if I will ever get a transplant. I think it’s ok to give it a few days for you to feel sad and disappointed, to let that emotion pass. Then get back and keep trying because one “no” doesn’t mean there won’t be a “yes” further down the road.

In my case, we are going to try a different transplant center as the decision making process can vary between centers. Also continuing to spread the word to see if there are other people willing to donate.

I hope something works out for you.

My brother tried a different transplant center and they accepted the living donor. Get a second opinion always.

I’m so sorry that’s happened. Try not to be discouraged. There must have been a reason. We just don’t know it. Prayers ❤️

So sorry to hear that this donor did not work out! I know my brother was always going to be my donor. A sibling could be a perfect match. Tissue markers (antigens) for a kidney match - you get 3 from your Mother and 3 from your Father - so a sibling could be a perfect match, if they got the same tissue antigens. When he was starting the process, it was discovered that he had high BP and was automatically ruled out. I also had a cousin come forward. It was determined that he was a 2/6 match for me. However, through more testing, it was also discovered that he had high BP. He was not aware of this problem, so for him it was good that he found this out. I also had a friend that was going to start the process on Monday and I literally

got "the call" from the transplant center the Friday before that they had a kidney for me. My deceased donor was a 4/6 match. They told me that it was almost unheard of for an unrelated donor to be that good of a match. Sometimes things work out much better than we expect. I am on a lower dose of immunosuppressants because of the great match. I was counting on a live donor transplant and wound up with a fantastic kidney from a deceased donor. Keep an open mind. I am now almost 20 years post transplant (Oct 15th).

Keep us posted. Best of luck.

My Uncle, who is the same age as I. went the process to get cleared for donating his Kidney. He was a perfect match. We were 52 at the time. They ended up denying his kidney as they found a kidney stone in each kidney during his physical. He was unaware he had them.
