I don't know about you all but where I am from there are no real support groups or walks or anything really to help people living with our disease. In the area that I live in the clinics are full and ones that are not even built yet are full as well, it makes no sense to me that we have such a need but no real local resources to depend on. The closest to us would be in Austin 5 hours away and for some of us that might as well be impossible to go to. I want to start a non profit in my area where we can help educate not only patients but potential donors and help with funding also. Is there any one with any advice out there that can point me in the right direction I know I can't be the only patient in my area wanting more....
Hello I was just shocked by what I found - Kidney Dialysis
Hello I was just shocked by what I found
Good morning!!!!!
You would be correct. I live in NC and I along with the Social worker are in the process of getting one together.
Talk to the Social worker and you both can brain storm.
HAVE A BLESSED & AWESOME DAY!!!!!
I'm NC and we are in the are in the process of putting a group together. I talked to the onsite social worker. You do the same. She should know what to do.
What you are doing is AWESOME!!!!😁😁😁😁😁
The NKF offers the PEER program. This program connects patients who want support with someone who has been there. A national, telephone-based peer support program which helps patients adjust to living with kidney failure: kidney.org/patients/peers
I too support the NKFPeers program. This is a great program for persons like yourself whom are located in areas without needed support. I also agree with the two other patient whom mention forming their own support group with the help of their unit Social Worker.
Support group can come and go for whatever reason, (transportation challenges, leadership changes, members come and go...) but I do support you with trying to gain your own "support group" in your area!!!
I work at an NKF office in Michigan and I help the support group with appropriate literature for their members to discuss at meetings. So, seek the NKF office in Austin to ask for such materials. Go on the Kidney.org website and you can print a lot of material for your knowledge.
Good Luck, and accept the challenge and ask for help and you will be glad you did it!!!
