Hi - I'm new here! Started PD about a year ago and am doing OK except for weight gain! Having issues with draining; did the PET test and I'm a fast transporter!

I'm 69 and also have Type 2 diabetes. Originally diagnosed with kidney failure April of 2015. Started PD June of 2016.

I was told problems with drawing could be the placement of your port if it's hitting up against a nerve or something as simple as constipation . I also have a pancreatic diffency so I don't make enough enzymes to break down my food which was causing draining issues cause I was constipated .

Hi Heather! I've had 3 port operations (orig & 2 replacements). I've had a couple of stomach operations prior (gallbladder & hysterectomy) so the scar tissue was causing problems for the surgeon on placing the cath. 3rd time was charm as it's been working fairly well. the surgeon told me to lay on my right side when draining - this does help, but I don't always wake up at each drain! Although lately, the Cycler has been alarming at each drain, so I have to get up & clear it so I go back to bed & lay on my right side which does take more off. Some of my drain issues are with the Fresenius Cycler - it's automatically set to stop the drain at 70%, so I'm left with a lot left in me. Most mornings, after disconnecting from the Cycler, I do a manual drain & get a significant amt off. Constipation is not an issue for me (LOL) - rather the other way!

How have you handled the pancreatic diffency? Thanks for your reply! Leave me a msg any time!

For pancreatic difency I take a med called creon it makes things work for me . I have issues with drain because im a toss and turner so I tend to get tangled up a lot so my alarm goes off quit frequently as well for me laying on left side works better for some reason , so just shows how different every ones dialysis experience is different. If cycler set at 70 % can't your nurse change that for u so your not left with so much in?
