rabies after transplant

They do screen but sometimes, the disease does not appear until after the surgery. But if you read the article completely, the number of cases of rabies is extremely rare and like one in multiple years.
I saw that as well, unfortunately rabies isn’t currently part of organ transplant screening. There have been several prior incidents as well of this occurring, despite being rare, one would think this day and age it would be added to the screened conditions to be entirely avoided given the possibility that it can occur.
I'm guessing they screen based on likeliness to occur, and rabies is so rare that it doesn't make sense to screen for. Perhaps the publicity of this case might change things, but I doubt it. There could be thousands upon thousands of things they could screen for, but it doesn't make financial sense to do so.
i guess so but still. .brrrrr
Unfortunately for us, they don't can't possibly screen for every little thing out there, especially if it is considered "rare". Evidently, it as not as rare as they think. Three other patients didn't die because they were treated successfully. How many things occur that we don't hear about? But, yes it is scary. It's extremely scary that with a transplant we must take so many drugs to shut down our immune system to prevent rejection. That alone is scary. Stay safe!
FYI: The story is all over the news even in the UK and it seems there were more cases earlier in time, too: Stay safe.
