When did the current system of CKD stages come into being? When did the medical field identify the blood test markers and determine the stage a person might be at?
The reason I ask, I believe my father had kidney disease, he certainly had several of the symptoms. However, like many today, he was never told he had CKD. To me, it seems like he would have been stage 3b. So, my thinking is, the stages and blood tests for identification possibly didn't exist yet.
The first widely used equations to estimate glomerular filtration rate (GFR) were developed in the 1970s. The Cockcroft and Gault formula (CG) was developed in 1973 using data from 249 men.
