Is there anti inflammatory medication that does not affect the kidneys negatively?

I had a Doctor who prescribed an anti inflammatory daily and possibly hurt my kidneys. Thankfully I got off of them.

At this point in time, there are no kidney safe anti-inflammatories. Most nephrologists will not go against a cardiologist's prescription of low dose aspirin to prevent primary or secondary heart attacks, but that's only because of liability reasons. You can try acetaminophen (Tylenol) for analgesia, but it's not a true anti-inflammatory. That being said, I'm not a doctor and have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about. Marvin8,fascinating article. I had been on aspirin since 1991 put on it by German Nephrologists. No-one stopped me since none of my Irish Nephrologists. Only for my son who his a medical student corrected me and told me aspirin was an NSAID. So I looked into it more and as I never had a heart attack saw that I could stop it. My stomach pains stopped. But now from this article I see it was possibly damaging my kidney all along.

My hubby was on baby aspirin for many years to help with his heart health and, because the tablet was small, he was told it wouldn't hurt his kidneys. My husband eventually lost his kidneys to diabetes and, to my knowledge, baby aspirin was never considered a factor. Anyway, following his transplant, the baby aspirin was discontinued. Sadly, my hubby contracted a-fib later on and he's now back on a thinner - Eliquis. I've noticed that one can cause bleeding inside the kidneys. Sigh, apparently there's a dark side to most all meds.

Whilst I don’t have an answer, this is a really good question and I will be very interested in your replies. Since most illnesses these days seem to involve ‘inflammation’, as opposed to pain, I hope someone is picking this up and researching it with gusto.

hi there, I also would like to know if there are too. Recently I broke 3 ribs and was unable to take meds to help with the inflammation and pain

I take acetaminophen for pain tho it's not really for pain or inflammation, it helps a little

I would suggest discussing the supplement turmeric with your doctor. I was on it for many years based on a paper that it was safe to use it. Since I started it, three nephrologists have cleared it plus my kidney transplant doctors and pharmacists. I have since gone off of it because my current anti-rejection regime has stabilized my inflammation because it is an auto-immune side effect.

Topical NSAIDs like Voltaren apparently don't affect the kidney as much.

Hi. My nephrologist approved for me to use Arnica gel. It reduces inflammation as well as pain for me. You might consider asking your Doctor about this.

Here is an article I found a few years ago. It sometimes seems to have contradicting statements so it's best to read the whole article. I am stage 4 so I started seeing a pain management doctor years ago for lower back pain. I used to take a lot of Ibuprofen but now take Hydrocodone. blogs.the-hospitalist.org/h....
