SKIN CONDITION

For the past few years, my skin has become extremely dry. Now, I have scaly areas and some include a hard bump about the size of a piece of rice. I did visit a new dermatologist who was very dismissive and merely, said that the condition was simply because i was old. I'm asking if anyone else on the forum has had similar skin problems and could it be related to our CKD. The dermatologist whom I saw for 15 years or more retired on medical leave. I've scheduled an appointment with a new dermatologist, but I just wondering if anyone has had similar problems. I may have written about this before, but I can't find any posts about it. Any information that can be shared would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

Sorry not sure about your specific condition. A dermatologist hopefully can help with that🙏. But generally speaking not taking a very hot shower and for long, applying a good coconut oil before taking a shower and using a good mild coconut oil based or similar soap can help sooth your skin too🙏

I have the same thing and I have tried researching what it might be but there is not much out there. I have come to the conclusion that it is some mild form of psoriasis and it is either linked to the CKD or to taking a beta blocker (in my case Metoprolol). I used Cerave oil cream and Aquaphor ointment and they do seem to help.

Wow, I take Metoprolol, too, but some of this started before I took it. Still it still has become more intense since taking Metoprolol. Metoprolol also causes my severe insomnia, but I need to take it. Darn. I tried changing meds, but I had terrible side effects from the replacements.

I read Metoprolol may cause insomnia because it depletes ones natural melatonin. So, the recommended treatment is to up the melatonin dosage. I now take 5mg of rapid release melatonin and it helps about 80% of the time. And, I'm grateful for that. Now, I have to keep researching the skin problem

I'll let you know if I find out anything.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience.

Definitely let me know if you find out anything.

In the meantime, here is an article that you might find interesting. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl....

I occasionally have insomnia but mostly because I have to get up at around 5 AM to relieve myself (no doubt because of the CKD) and then it's hard to get back to sleep.

I read your profile and we have a lot in common. 😀
