I guess you mean an eGFR of 72. Here is a link to information on the eGFR from National Kidney Foundation. It explains the eGFR and also gives age relation. kidney.org/atoz/content/gfr
Hi Baby boy 1313,
Welcome to a wonderful community of knowledgeable and compassionate people.
As far as your feelings; they are absolutely normal as I'm sure that every member of this community has felt the same way when they heard kidney issues.
Take a breath.
First question is have you discussed your lab results with your GP or ordering physician?
Print them out and write the last set of test results next to the current ones near the ranges provided by the lab.
I would list questions and make an appointment to speak to the ordering physician and make sure that they are all answered.
Take good notes at your appointment and voice your concerns to him/ her.
How are your electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, phosphorous, calcium? Your protein and albumin levels as well.
Are you on a statin for cholesterol and high blood pressure medication?
These are all important.
I'm not sure as to your lab ranges which is why I suggested that you have a meeting with your doctor.
The good thing is that you are diabetic and not spilling protein which is not uncommon.
Just make sure that you are very hydrated before completing any laboratory tests.
As far as the gift of 72 that you are talking about; I'm not sure what you mean.
I'm sending you a link which explains various kidney functions and tests including blood creatinine, GFR, BUN.

Remember that until your doctor says something is so; it isn't so.
Please get back to us and let us know what your doctor says.
Positive thinking!
Bet
everything else is normal. and yes I mean gfr don’t know why it came out as gift .doctor has no worries for me but I feel differently she told me everything was normal .can my gfr go up . I did do the test after lunch would that make a difference
Thank you all for the replies back!
A grf of 72 is good listen to your doctor. They say 60 and above you need not worry especially as you age. Did you mean ( .93) for blood creatine. If so, that is also great. That point makes a huge difference! Always question labs so you good home with a feeling of comfort. Best of luck!!
