I just wanted to post a few links to those who worry about their coffee intake.

Thanks for the post and links. Here is a link to article from National Kidney Foundation on coffee and CKD. I am CKD 3 and do drink decaf coffee in moderation and no bad effects. We are all different so for some with CKD might be of consequence.

Because my CKD is from long term dehydration, I avoid all caffeine. I was never a coffee person, but I lived on Coke Zero and other diet colas. Like most everything, I suspect moderation is key.

Some additional links on the benefits of coffee. Remember this is general information not specific to anyone or their CKD. Always as your trusted medical professional about ANYTHING that you put in your mouth. The kidneys filter all toxins in your blood and while coffee (or anything) may be safe or beneficial for me, it may not be for you and your personal CKD, so talk to a doctor you trust before or about your coffee consumption. Also, moderation is key as these studies show 2/3 NORMAL (8oz) cups a day is fine for most 6/7 cups not so much. Okay, the links:

Interesting enough this study found that only the caffeinated version of coffee helped decaffeinated did NOT have the same benefits. Much like the additive issues with energy drinks the same type processing of the coffee bean and removing the caffeine artificially can cause the protective effects of coffee to be voided. Quote from the article:“The researchers observed an association for ground and instant coffee consumption with a significant reduction in arrhythmia at one to five cups/day; no association was seen for decaffeinated coffee. The lowest risks were seen for four to five cups/day of ground coffee and for two to three cups/day of instant coffee (hazard ratios, 0.83 and 0.88, respectively). All coffee subtypes were associated with a reduction in incident cardiovascular disease versus nondrinkers, with the lowest risk for two to three cups/day of decaffeinated, ground, and instant coffee. A significant reduction was seen in all-cause mortality in association with all coffee subtypes, with the greatest risk reduction for two to three cups/day of decaffeinated, ground, and instant coffee (hazard ratios, 0.86, 0.73, and 0.89, respectively).”

As always my very best on your CKD journey.
