Yes, very often . Taking certain medications can cause it. Whenever I take the pain killer Co codamol i have such a dry mouth a few hours later it almost feels like I have run out of spittal and the roof if my mouth feels almost stuck to the bottom. Sucking small sugarless sweets can help keep your mouth moistened.

If you woke up in the middle of the night, you were sleeping with your mouth open.

Yes, and when I do, I use Biotene--comes as mouthwash, toothpaste and gel. The gel seems to work best for me. This was suggested by dental hygienist.

I have dry eye and dry mouth but it's due to rheumatoid arthritis and not my kidney disease. I'm not sure if anyone else has the issue you do or not.

Yes, I have cottonmouth from medications that I take. Biotene is nice; Crest, Colegate, Synsidine and others also make toothpaste and mouthwash that helps. There are also a number of brands of dry mouth logenzes that help. My favorite dry mouth logenze is Cotton Mouth brand. It's made with nature herbs and other ingredients and I think that it works better and tastes better than most other logenzes. At night I use Zylimelts, which have an adhesive that will stick to your gums so you don't have to worry about swallowing them while you sleep. I buy both of these from Amazon.

I use a conraption to prevent my mouth from opening when I sleep. Amazon have dozens of them.
