My GRF was 44 last year and within 8 months dropped to 32.. 3 further tests show very similar low readings. My next hospital appointment is in 2 weeks. What type of treatment can I expect. And what questions should I ask. Has anyone had similar sharp drop. Very grateful for your experience. Strupp
Type of treatment : My GRF was 44 last year... - Kidney Disease
Type of treatment
Hi Struppp,
Treatment would be for the cause of your CKD. Such as treatment for high BP if that is your cause, or Type 2 Diabetes med to lower levels.
Mainly a plant-based diet is the best treatment for any stage of CKD. If you are still eating meat, please cut down or cut it out altogether. That will help you stay in Stage 3.
Your eGFR is still at a level where you can get it back up again with diet and exercise.
Ask for a referral to a renal dietician or research plant-based diets on the internet. You'll find a lot of diet plans and can get some books on Kindle for free, or look at your local library.
Best of luck with improving your numbers.
I did when I was leaking a lot of protein. Make sure they check that. Have you lost weight too?
I had a stable GFR of 66 for over 10 years then a sudden drop to 44 and then within 4 days it dropped to 11 then 7. So steep and sudden. Was hospitalised, put on IV fluids for 10 days and had my anti inflationary med taken off me and some other meds decrease. Stabilised at around 22 and still drops occasionally to between 12 and 14 for about 4 years now. Your doctors will likely look at any meds your on and should monitor your bloods and urine every 3 months or so. Should also refer you to a good renal dietician to work with you on a personalised food plan tailored to your specific lab results. Good luck and even though its sounds easy, but isnt, try not to worry to much, its not good for your blood pressure, which is the other thing to get under control if you can.
What do you eat?
