DTPA results

Hello lovely people!

I finally got my DTPA results!

It seems good but there's something I don't understand. I know it's the nephrologist's job to do that and I'm going to ask him next week. But I was hoping I could understand and know my GFR based on the results. I just looked at a few DTPA reports on the Internet and they all have included the GFR in percentage.

But in my report I can't find it anywhere!

Shouldn't it normally be mentioned somewhere in it?!

This is what the NMC has typed in the report:

- Description: Both kidneys show proper perfusion and initial cortical uptake, with good secretion and excretion on delayed views.

- Impression: Both kidneys show proper function without evidence of obstruction.

I also attached a photo with some percentages, but no GFR.

I can see the phrase "Gates GFR" but that's all. No number.

The report says "proper function" .

But is it the kind of "proper function" they mention in the so-called normal GFR > 60???

I was just wondering!

eGFRs are recorded by labs as <60 or >60. If you are >60 you are considered normal.

Focus on the fact that everything is normal and functioning properly and stop looking for trouble and asking for more referrals and additional testing.

Rejoice in the good health you have and focus on staying that way with a CKD diet and not stressing out. Stress is very hard on our health.

Thank you! I know. The results sound promising. I was just curious, because they say this scan provides a more accurate gfr, but my test doesn't include the gfr... I was wondering if the others who had this scan done had their gfrs in the reports... 🤔But still, maybe a gfr above 60 is ok, but it by no means sound normal (at least not to me) 🙄

I know many people here would do anything to have a gfr about 60, like mine, but most of them probably had a gfr like mine or even higher when they were around my age! My gfr was above 110 ten years ago! I would do anything to have that back! 😁

I'll definitely stick to my new diet and a healthy lifestyle (even though it didn't work as I expected), and I'll try to get a control of my stress (I'm not really stressed now typing this 😅) but I think I still need more tests unless my neph says to me that my kidneys are functioning at 100%!

There are a number of tests to examine the globular filtration rate (GFR). They can display the results using different ranges and numbers. There are blood, urine, contrast tests...all different. This test is highly specific, measuring the performance (GFR) of each of your kidneys using its own methodology and numbers. Don't conflate one with the other.

Thank you for the comment.Yeah, I know. It's just that when I looked on the Internet for a few scan results, they all have calculated the gfr and put it in the report. But mine hasn't. I don't want to conflate them, but since they say the gfr calculated using this scan is more accurate, I'd really like to know where it is in the report!

There is a description and an impression saying something about "proper function", and I wonder how it's defined in this test. Do they consider a gfr above 60 as proper function?

Or does that mean the kidneys are functioning at 100%?

I’ve never even heard of this kind of test. I’d be curious to see what you can find out about their report on gfr when you figure it out. I’m pretty much relegated to blood tests and urine tests at the moment

I hadn't heard of this scan before, either...My new neph took a look at my tests and ordered this plus a 24hr urine protein test! I was kinda nervous when I looked up dtpa and found out they inject radioactive material! Lol

My appointment is in a few days and I'll ask my doctor about it.

Actually, I found an equation that's used to calculate gfr in this scan. But it's too complicated and I don't think I can calculate it myself lol
