I'm interested in how to choose the right foods that are low in phosphorous and potassium. Seems that I have been eating the wrong foods.

Swiss Chard, Red Beets, Bananas.

Will try Cabbage, Turnips, Pineapple and Apples.

You did not say what level of Chronic Kidney Disease you have been diagnosed at . It is best to contact your Doctor about appropriate CKD diet for you, as you could harm yourself.

As OC stated you should talk to both a nephrologist and a renal dietitian about the limits you should have on protein, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and calcium. Your body needs them and once the medical professionals look at your labs they will make the decision on what your daily limits should be and then advise you accordingly. There is no one size fits all meal plan.I can provide you with generic lists of foods that are high in some of those items but in what quantity should be given by the two medical professionals we mentioned.

Foods high in Potassium

Milk, milkshakes, hot chocolate, eggnog, ice cream, sherbet, frozen yogurt, pudding yogurt, custard, molasses/sorghum, dried fruit, apricots, bananas, honeydew, orange and prune juice, kiwi, oranges, nectarines, nuts, seeds, whole grain/bran cereals, chewing tobacco/snuff, and Brussel Sprouts, dried beans, peas, greens and spinach, wax beans, okra, potatoes, pumpkin, winter squash, tomatoes and tomato products.

Foods high in Phosphorus

Cheese, milk, soymilk, eggnog, milkshakes, hot chocolate, pudding yogurt, custard, flan, ice cream, ice milk, sherbet, frozen yogurt, whole grains, breads, cereals, baking soda, baking powder, pancakes, waffles, muffins, cake, cornbread, biscuits, beans and peas, (except green and wax beans), brown/wild rice and rice mixes, corn tortillas, coconut, nuts and nut butter, seeds, dried fruit, beer, chocolate, pizza, organ meats, sardines/mackerel.

Foods high in Sodium

Best of luck.
