Hello out there my name is Quita 55and I have a question in 12 days I will be having surgery for artriovenous fistula. I hear one of the side effects of dialysis is itching. If that happens is there something I can do? Open for ideas. Thanks
Hemodialysis : Hello out there my name is... - Kidney Disease
Hemodialysis
You may or may not get itching, but it’s probably due to high phosphorus levels in your blood, I know that I was asked to get the hepatitis vaccine if I went on hemo by the nephrologist, another hemo risk is sepsis, I chose PD instead it’s just so much safer and easier than hemo, and recently got a transplant.
I'm choosing hemodialysis because the solution for pd has sugar in it and being a diabetic trying to keep my blood sugar levels under control..
Extraneal pd bags are for diabetics they are long dwell bags for pd dialysis. The only advantage with PD is that you have no fluid restrictions and you can eat whatever you want.
People who are diabetic use extraneal bags to do pd dialysis because they contain no dextrose, ie sugar, so it’s safe for diabetics.
Interesting information about PD, but you stopped answering Quita55’s question.
I am on hemodialysis. I have never had any itching from it. I agree that too much phosphorus will make you itch. It sure did make me itch until I went on dialysis, then it stopped.
If you do start to itch, try a Cortizone cream.
Thank you Lavender Rabbit for answering my question about itching and knowing that dialysis can help with stopping itching, also I can buy cortisone cream.
