Hi, if you use drugs.com you can look up the medication and immediately find out if there are any interactions/warnings for someone taking it. You can set up a free account and list all of your medications and get all the information you need. I use this when/if a physician orders a new med. This has saved me $$ on previous scripts.

Deb, it shouldn’t do but then I don’t know what specific problem you have with your kidneys and how much ( length of time) you are expecting to be on the medication. I say this following my experience, mostly with Prednisolone but also with one shot of Methylpred, and I have just a sole kidney with the latest eGFR reading today of 41. Do confirm with your renal consultant as he knows your history.

Hello Debqm! I looked online for some information regarding methylprednisone and I happened to find this article from drugs.com. I did read it, but not quite sure what to think about it really.

It does state that in testing the drug, they found that the risk of developing infections was high, but they still believe that the benefits to kidney function for those who suffer from IgA Nephropathy, make the adverse effects (ie high risk of infections) worth tolerating. Of course this is providing I understood things correctly. Lol!

But seriously, I think this is something for you to look over and consider more closely. Perhaps speak to your nephrologist about any concerns you may have. It also stated that any decline in kidney function (even to end-stage or death) while using this drug is dependant on each individual situation.

I hope you find this helpful dear. Know that I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Stay well. I wish you all my best. God bless. 🙏😊👍

After a transplant, prednisone is one of the immunosuppressant meds you are put on. It helps to remove inflammation and thus helps to prevent rejection in a transplant recipient. As Mr_Kidney suggested you can look up the medication on drugs.com. The medication has a lot of side effects. I was on it for 5 years after my transplant and then was able to discontinue.
